Default Tenet Claims------Believable?

Interesting interview with former CIA Director Tenet on 60 Minutes tonight.

I'm sure the "real truth" lies somewhere between his story and the Bush administration's but I'll be interested in hearing what the Secretary of State and Vice President have to offer.

Anyone else watch? Comments?

I caught it. I found his desire to stick to an euphamism, rather than admitting the CIA used moderate forms of torture, to be fairly outrageous. On the other hand, I think he was sincere when he talked about not being one of the driving forces behind the drive to war in Iraq.

Default it's all about his legacy

George Tenet is trying to burnish his reputation in the same way Colin Powell has tried. Both of them should have resigned. They let themselves be used as scapegoats and in the process both failed to act on the behalf of the American people

I agree with a lot of what you're saying but does that exonerate the ones who used him as a scapegoat? The still seems to be some credibility in his statements.

The time for him to stand up and be counted has long past. To allow him to attempt to do so now is a national shame.

But if what he is saying is true, particulary RE: Rice and Cheney, it's no less true now.

No, absolutely the users should not be exonerated, and I'm sure a lot of Tenet had to say is correct even if his motives are not the purest. In the case of Cheney and Bush, Kuchinich has the right idea, but impeachment is not going to happen. Even though I consider bush to be a puppet in the hands of Cheney and the neocons (Wolfowitz, Feith, etal) he should be held responsible and tried for high crimes against the American people. That said, I guess it seems like old hat to me. Richard Clark and Paul O'Neill wrote the first books to expose the administration and people still voted for bush in '04.

If Tenet and Powell didn't want to resign they should have at least spoken the truth and let themselves be fired like O'Neill and Clark (I guess Clark just refused to be demoted and quit).

To be honest, I only came in on the Sixty Minute interview when Tenet was explaining the "slam dunk" remark. I'll watch the rest online later.

I did read this excerpt from the book: http://www.time.com/time/nation/arti...5848-1,00.html

I'd be inclined to vote for impeaching Cheney, I think he deserves it and it might finally convince Bush that high office does not make your actions unquestionable.
