What's going on? In terms of government expanding the scope of its operations is no different now than it was in 1908,1913,1933,1945,1950, and in 1962 when Barry Goldwater reprimanded republicans, in his book, "The Conscience of A Conservative." I'll quote a few excerpts from Chapter 7 Taxes and Spending

Robert, I'm not sure how old you are, but this has been going on for the last 50 plus years and you're now outraged??? This is the part that gets me, both parties have steadily increased the size and scope of government and you have the nerve to tell me i do not know what is going on? Tell me what president below had a smaller budget than the man that preceded him

Congressional Budget increases each year and the growing public debt is now all of a sudden in 8 months a huge public concern??????? In the previous 75 years why didn't you hold tea parties? Why didn't you show up to town halls with guns? Why didn't you shout down your reps and senators?? Why NOW???? During one of the worst economies in more than 70 years?
Why are you outraged now is my only question? I'm young and i've been outraged for awhile at least 6 years (in reference to excessive gov spending), so 30 years into the future, i can stand and tell my grand-children with a straight face if posed with the question i asked you, "i have always been outraged with government spending since my first political affiliation with the republican party and George W. Bush," can you do the same?
We just had 8 years in which some of the most serious violations of our rights occured and NOW you're outraged??? Where were you standing in town hall meetings when an 800 Billion dollars increase in Medicare was proposed????????????? Excessive spending, excessive invasions into our personal lives, violations of our civil liberties, and many other violations, that are not expressed by or written into the constitution have been going on since at least 1908 and now all of a sudden people are completely outraged???
I'm a small government libertarian and under no circumstance will i ever go to war with these new individuals who claim small government that have all of a sudden popped out of the wood work who are over the age of 40!!! You want to fight the Federal Government be my guest, I'd then maybe you'll find out the true meaning of the Thomas Jefferson Shey's Rebellion quote you morons keep quoting at town halls.
Finally a small block outraged to the point a small group actually wants to succeed? Outraged to the point they will stand up in town hall meetings and incorrectly quote the Founding Fathers, show an extreme lack of understanding the founding principles of our country, not be able to differentiate between Social Programs and Socialism ("Guberment betta keep their hands off my Medicare" -Old women at town hall meeting), it is madness. It was madness when far left wackos were doing it to President Bush, ignoring all rational thought for political gain, it is madness now!!
The constitution did not set out a plan to deal with irrationality, they made a major mistake by assuming most of us would act rationally in pursuit of our own self-interest. I hate to say it, but in some cases as much as i support complete unregulated freedom for citizens, it is becoming very clear, that there is an alarmingly stupid element of our population that is completely irrational and extremely self-destructive (this goes both ways).
I'll tell you exactly what i told many of my liberal friends who opposed G.W.Bush with irrationality and madness. Shut up, calm down, and take your Riddlin and relax, try breathing in and out haha j/k. Seriously, I told them If you want to oppose and debate his policies honestly with logic, I'm willing to debate you, but if you want to make far out crazy theories, that you have no empirical evidence to back up your accusations, i am unwilling to participate in debate with you. I cannot take some seriously in a debate when they yell far out craziness. It makes rational debate on the actual issues impossible. If you want to debate the size of government and his policies point taken. However, you have to be willing an acknowledge we need to get rid of all government programs not be picky if that is truly your position. Or we can have an logical debate about the role of government and what limits should be placed upon government in today's global society. If i had choice between Social Security and Health Care both social insurance programs run by the government, I'm choosing health-care, social security can fall by the wayside.
