Oh, get off your high horse. The US is not alone in having politicians more interested in keeping their jobs then working for the benefit of the nation - the US is not alone in having jobs 'outsourced' to China or Taiwan or whereever the widget can be made the cheapest. The US is not alone in having fear mongers/hate mongers/ and all sorts of mongers out there warning that the end is near. The UK has it, France has it - hell, all nations have it. Sadly political corruption is not just a problem in the US.
You can call it "high horse" if you like if it doesn't fit into your thinking. NO America is NOT alone in outsourcing jobs but America is Alone in allowing what was once the Country of innovation and the "American dream" become so quickly, the Country that fails millions of its own citizens every day in Health, Schooling etc. America has allowed the fear mongers to dictate their decisions. In the UK, for example, If the fear mongers try to disturb the majority we just ignore them. In America, because it is so insular, you only have these lies that are being spread as facts to make your judgements on with no outside experience to draw from...and therefore make judgements based on lies and fear.
As to our current situation - Christ, where have you been? This has been in the making since the rule of George I. People are angry because they are waking up to the fact that the terms republican and democrat have just about as much legitimacy as the slogan 'change' (don't tell me you bought into that bs? I have to admit I did, and I feel particularily burned by the lie it turned out to be). People are angry because NAFTA didn't turn out quite as it was supposed to, people are angry because W f'd us up both by running up huge debt as well as running down the US' good name. America is told by the big Corporations to jump and America says how high? Unfortunately party politics and power is the only factor that now decides America's actions. The well being of American Citizens is way down the list of priorities.
I think it simplistic to look at what is happening as a blue v red thing. It goes much, much deeper then that. I have been listening to Hannity and Laura Ingraham lately and I detect nerves on both of their parts. They are trying to corral the anger but they know it will bite them as well. People are tired of politics as usual. Maybe a viable third pary will rise from the ashes.
If only Obama could grow some balls and stop trying to please BOTH parties. America wants a President who says what he means and means what he says...even if it becomes unpopular
The Obama/Bush team, along with Clinton/Greenspan's NASDAQ bubble, helped to make this possible. Yay team!
Don't forget Bush 1 and Reagan. Carter, for all of his screw ups, saw the writing on the wall with the oil embargo. He mandated that 70% of all of our energy come from domestic sources. Of course this didn't effect automanufacturers, but it was a start.
No, we continue to send 700 BILLION (thats with a B folks) to foreign countries every year for their oil. Imagine what we could do in this country with 700 billion dollars extra staying at home yearly.
1. Middle Eastern countries wouldn't be getting anymore of our money.
This will prevent terrorist attacks at home, because you are withdrawing your money from their budgets. Not to mention we can leave the region to its own devices, and quit spending billions on military actions in oil rich areas of the world.
2. Paying down the national debt.
Imagine just keeping 350 billion and paying down our debts. The value of the dollar would increase, and we wouldn't be in the hock to China anymore. All kinds of added benefits if we payed down the debt.
I hear people complaining about energy costs all the time, but the same folks are against solar, nuclear, and wind energy. Why? Because it costs more? What is the cost to switching to alternative energy compared to 700 billion a year leaving our country? There isn't enough oil out there to keep up with our demands.
To me, this is the biggest failure of the Obama administration. I understand healthcare costs are important, but to me, getting the United States to become energy independant would have been my first and most pressing goal when I came into office.
NEVER in the history of America has the rest of the World looked at America with such amazement and disbelief.
America has lost it's position as the World's innovator and is now becoming the also rans of industry,finance,health and Education.
Up until a few years ago, American products were thought of by the World as advanced and unbeatable. Not anymore. Even in America itself, foreign products are outselling American products. I myself ordered recently "Americanalia" products for my company in the UK from the USA such as signs, American flags, banners etc etc. Every single item was made in china...even the "God Bless America" signs.
The American motor industry is now virtually gone and foreign cars are selling better in America than American cars.
The financial industry in America is crumbling and China has America in its pocket.
The Health System in America is now falling behind many poorer Countries and fails millions of Americans.
Education is non existant to many poor children.
The President of the United States was slated and attacked, even before his first day in office was over. We watch the American media turn into partisan recruiting stations for their specific parties and news takes a back seat behind "party bashing".
The outside world had thought that Americans had had enough of the B/S that ran their lives when they overwhelmingly voted in Obama as President. Obviously not. We in the rest of the World are amazed at how gullable so many Americans are and how they are led by the nose by the big Corporations and the media. They use fear tactics to scare the American public and it works. This "Freedom" B/S is only for those in control or who have money in the USA. The good hard working Americans are "Free" to only do whatever the CEO's and "Fat Cats" tell them to do. Wake up America!
The self interest groups laugh at you everyday. They know how to push your buttons and then convince you that YOU are making the decissions when really they are brain washing you with fear and paranoia.
If you want to know the truth about something then ask people who have real experience. Ask people with no "axe to grind". Ask people who have no hidden agenda or are payed by the media to say what the media wants them to say. Ask YOURSELF if these things like a UHC are so bad then why does the rest of the industrialised world use it. Ask yourself who gains from America staying exactly as it is.
I love the American people. I hate the manipualtion of good honest people in America by the greedy and the ruthless.
America has now got the chance to get rid of the corruption and self interest that only thinks of their own well being. Obama was voted into office for change. Why on earth are Americans now allowing the Beck's, Limbaugh's, Hanitty's and Rove's of this world (who are doing very nicely from this hatred) scare you into hiding under your beds and allowing them to dictate your lives and in the process put America on hold.
The outside World now has dubbed the USA as the "UNITED HATE OF AMERICA"
Just remember WHY you voted Obama into office....CHANGE!

A friend of mine has just returned from China, an extended stay in various cities. He was amazed at the construction going on everywhere, the stores, the goods, the food. With a population of 2 billion, watch out America, here comes a new super power. China does not have an immigrant problem, or unions, or lawyers, or civil rights groups, or even minimum wages.
The United States is run by tying both hands behind the backs of businesses with regulations, quotas, law suits and taxes.
America is a land of conformist robots. Trembling in fear at the mention of words such as communism, socialism, change.
America has no ideals nor principles. Capitalism has become America's master and dominant religion. Whatever puts money in the pocket is all that matters. How it's done doesn't matter.
More and more often Americans need to compare themselves with low-rate Third World countries to feel better about themselves.
Fooling and manipulating the average American is not much of a challenge. The corporations know this and are taking full advantage. If the corporations are doing well, why change?
I could see a decline in the US back when the convenience stores, and too many super highways came along. What's convenient about higher prices ? Sign pollution became rampant, fast food joints everywhere. Americans began selling out for shopping and tv addictions. And people got fatter. Is that a sign of prosperity ?
I wasn't a Clinton fan, or A democrat. I avoided the path to debt. No to credit cards. I watched people get deep into debt, and they thought that it was funny. America has sold out to a communist country. We owe money to a communist country ? How did that happen ? We were the ones who were "supposed" to stop communism. Whatever happened to duck and cover ? The Red scare ? Now it's "terrorists." If we spent more time fixing our own problems, and making our own stuff, and minding our own business, we wouldn't have to worry about being invaded. Are there any other countries as paranoid as the US ?
This has been a fantastic place and economy for upper 2% of the international financiers. They made out by everything that has been done since Ronnie Raygun sold us to the Chinese. Thanks guys.

I agree with you 100%.
Instead we have sore loser ( Republicans ) crying, complaining and not wanting to hunker down ( Bi-partisan commitments) to get the real issues solved.
To me it seems like they would rather use scare tactics and say the World is going to end rhetoric.
