This First Solar project represents the world’s largest photovoltaic power plant project to date, and it is part of an 11.9 gigawatt renewable-energy park planned for Ordos City in Inner Mongolia. This farm should be ready to go in 2019.

First Solar said the 2 gigawatt power plant would cost $5 billion to $6 billion if built in the U.S. today, but it said the cost to build such a project in China would probably be lower.

Meanwhile in the U.S. our august leaders are spending their time arguing over birth certificates, socialism and the size of Michelle Obama, arms, hem length or whatever.
It is not an accident that China is committed to overtaking us in electric cars, solar power, energy efficiency, batteries, nuclear power and wind power. China’s leaders understand that in a world of exploding populations and rising emerging-market middle classes, demand for clean power and energy efficiency is going to soar. Beijing wants to make sure that it owns that industry and is ordering the policies to do that, including boosting gasoline prices, from the top down.

Americans don't like working and would rather collect money from Uncle Sam. Also, they demand their government force companies to pay at least $7/hr for any labor, or they can just go out of business. Screw 'em.

In China, if you don't work, you starve.

The State of Arizona is a direct beneficiary of this contract - First Solar is a Tempe, Arizona based company. This contract will result in the creation of new jobs here in the State of Arizona.

Good for AZ!

We have tons of sunlight here in the flats of Colorado, like the San Luis Valley down in the south part of state. Sadly, our own government is largely missing the boat because the coal lobby has been working for decades to stop solar, wind and nuclear from taking away it's sacred cow of being the fuel used by most power plants. We the people can see the future, but with a Congress that is constantly for sale, getting meaningful policy direction and funding is nearly impossible.

To this day, the USA does NOT HAVE a stated national energy policy that establishes policies, priorities, funding formulas, goals, and measurable outcomes. Same for transportation, but that's another rant for another thread.

China's gold and resource hoarding as well as investments into infrastructure are why it will be the next world superpower while the rest of us will be flushed down the toilet.

Is $7/hour a liveable wage? Sure....if you combined the $7/hr with food stamps, medicaid, rent and utility assistance....a person could get by
