Why is there such a rush if none of this will go into effect for 5 years or so?
Could it be that they want an election to take place before the effects of this disaster become a reality? That would be my guess, Obama is in constant campaign mode still.

The old German Blitzkrieg. Hit fast before anyone realizes what has happened and can mount a good defense.

Once it's in place it can never be undone. You can't unring a bell.

Because the longer it takes the more people find out about it and hate the idea of it. So he wants to ram it through as fast as possible.

It was part of the Democratic platform. No need to be all crazy thinking about it.

Because right now we're in an ecomonic "crisis" and it's easier to pass controversial legislation under fear. If/when the economy recovers, this would be less likely to pass. Plus, the more people lose jobs and insurance tied to their employers, the better the administration can make the case. Again, prey on fear and weakness. And if you can't pass leglislation through deception, then pass it through force. (Atlas Shrugged).

Because health care costs have been rising rapidly for years. This is something that should have been done years ago.

You'd think we would have figured out this trick by now, after having it pulled on us repeatedly for years. Even a rat will refuse poisoned food the second time around (if it survived the first time, anyway).

Rush? The country's been working on this since Teddy Roosevelt! If that's rushing, I can't imagine what you consider to be the proper amount of time.

(actually I do, its called the 2010, 2012 election cycle)
