I was in TPOC (The People's Republic of California) last week and saw a car with two bumper stickers; one said "Obama" the other said "Celebrate Diversity" and I started to think about that. What exactly does it mean, and what exactly should we be celebrating? If a white dude, black dude, Asian dude and Hispanic dude are all roommates, should I celebrate that; and if so, why? What if they're all jerks, should I still celebrate them, but with an asterisk?

This bumper sticker is the exact antithesis of MLK's "I have a dream" speech and I concluded that this bumper sticker is nothing more then some leftist new age gobbely g ook."

Diversity has its place in society. I enjoy plenty of diversity in my line of work, and all and all, its a positive thing because i'm surrounded by intellects of every race and creed. But as far as my family-life goes, I am quite happy here in white suburbia, free of gangs, drive-by shootings, panhandlers, prostitutes, and corner drug dealers.

I'm in a mixed race marriage and have a bi-racial daughter, but I never celebrated that. I celebrate my daughter because she's adorable and says something that makes me smile on a daily basis, not because she's ethnically "diverse."

Amen. The liberals want to shove diversity down our throats.

I don't understand why you'd get yer knickers in a twist over a decades old bumpersticker... think about it again, say it with me, bumpersticker. bumpersticker.

see? Isn't that just silly?

So people would rather have a world that embraces
ALL people, rather than a close minded classist racist etc... world.

Is that really so AWFUL?

Spare us the drama there johhny, "shove diversity down our throats." whatev.

No one is saying that we shouldn't embrace other cultures, the problem is is that liberals want it SHOVED down our throats. They don't want it to be optional. To be honest, I don't want to associate with drug dealers, pimps, prostitutes, illegal aliens, and terrorists, regardless of what race or ethnicity they may be. I know that may be a shocking things for you to hear, but it is no less true. I prefer to choose what "diversity" I want in my life rather than have the "diversity dictators" tell me so.

You celebrated diversity when you branched out to marry someone from a different race/culture. The problem appears to be that you're taking the word "celebrate" literally.

But that's my whole point; I didn't marry my wife for her "ethnicity"; I married her for who she is as an individual. It's the whole group vs individual debate that really separates conservatives and leftists.

Literal or figurative why is diversity celebratory worthy? I judge a person solely on the content of their character; nothing more, nothing less.
