Tracking Your Taxes: Tax Dollars Being Washed Out to Sea - Political News - FOXNews.com (http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/09/10/tax-payer-dollars-washed-sea/?test=latestnews - broken link)

Talk about money running through your fingers.

It's no surprise that many Americans -- who see tax dollars spent for waste and ineffective programs -- feel as though their dollars are literally being tossed out to sea.

But FOX News found one program that does just that.

Sand replenishment projects are allotted millions of tax dollars annually to "rejuvenate" beaches, often just steps from multimillion-dollar beach homes and luxury hotels.

This is why eliminating a lot of the pork projects is something we should all support. At least our president stated he "will ban all earmarks," so we should not be seeing anymore federal taxes going to sand.

Those who are most likely to enjoy those luxuries are the ones who throw the loudest tantrums about paying taxes.

Do you have any idea the economic importance of our beaches? While I can't really say I agree with federal(instead of state/local) taxes being spent on such projects. All the beaches mentioned in the article are in California or in the northeast, and those states more than deserve the tax dollars they receive. California alone is shorted almost 50 billion every year by the federal government. That money is mostly spent in such states like Lousiana, Alabama, and Mississippi, for projects such as, constant federal disaster relief because people want to live there.

Do you want to save money? Lets stop the federal disaster relief for those southern states. Its not my fault they were too stupid to move the first time their house was destroyed.

I'm trying to come to a conclusion on this statement. Are you being sarcastic - as in the President said he would ban all earmarks - or do you seriously believe him because he made such a statement?

Unlike pi$$ing away $$$$ in places like Iraq and other wasteful foreign aid, at least resort areas in the US contribute to local economies with jobs, sales tax revenues, property taxes, etc., a damn sight more than we'll ever see from the foreign bozos we back with NO return on investment.

I don't believe a word that comes out of his mouth. One of the first things he did was sign the omnibus bill with about 8,000 earmarks. It will be up to us to demand the earmarks stop, because the names may change, but the politicians remain the same.

You have a point there. If they have an AIDS problem in Africa, let Africa take care of it, its a big continent, we have our own problem here.
