PRAGUE – President Barack Obama has decided to scrap plans for a U.S. missile defense shield in the Czech Republic and Poland that had deeply angered Russia, the Czech prime minister confirmed Thursday.
NATO's new chief hailed the move as "a positive step" and a Russian analyst said the move will increase the chances that Russia will cooperate more closely with the United States in the dispute over Iran's nuclear program.
And what exactly are we getting in return from Russia?
Russia has already made it clear, no new sanctions against Iran. So, we abandon our allies, once again, for the sole purpose of showing the bad guys how nice we are?
The "missile shield" was never meant to defend against anything but the builder’s potential profit. Just another case of financial/industrial welfare scrapped because we do not need it. We also do not need Russia's help because, even if Iran develops nukes and a delivery system, they are no threat to us.
It's the same people who complain about unharnessed spending that whine when we cut potential "pork."
I guess they always have something to whine about, contradictions notwithstanding.
Where are we going to get the money?it is not like we have extra billions laying around. If those countries want a missle shield let them pony up the bucks. It's not like we owe them anything,I do not say this much but I support the President.

The return is we're doing the right thing. Of course I know you NeoConfuseds wouldn't be whining about capitulation if your companies profited. You know, like cozying up with the terror sponsoring state of Libya?
Gotta get that oil, eh? Typical NeoConfused hypocrisy.

It will just never cease to amaze me these people have no problem with leaving Qaddafi in power, KNOWN sponsor of the mass murder of Americans while claiming what a necessity removing Hussein from power was. You can bet $$$ to donuts, somewhere, somehow, somebody made a lot of $$$ from this travesty.
Good move. Enough of interventionist foreign policy. We can't afford that anymore.
And next we should list out the bases we are going to close around the world. I'd say 2/3s of them could be closed. We have the technology to kick any one's butts without maintaining bases all over the world.
I don't get the part about throwing our allies under the bus. What the heck is that supposed to mean? We will defend our allies if need be. Even the Saudis have our our word on it.

No, but this move was part of the deal that was made with Russia earlier this year. The Russians are letting ISAF supply convoys run through their country to Afghanistan, which is a thousand times safer than the current route up through Pakistan and Southern Afghanistan.
