Frederic Malter, data analyst for the University of Arizona, presented to the county supervisors Monday a study showing Mohave County to have twice as many smokers at the rest of the state.

Sure, in most cases I imagine it would be beneficial. So would banning smoking altogether or banning fatty foods. Your post only demonstrates to me that you've missed my point entirely. The state shouldn't mandate what legal activities can or cannot be allowed on private property.

Your 50-50 figures startles me. I live IN tobacco country and our rate is nowhere near 50%. I'm a little suspect of those figures as well.

I guess with the smoke clearing and now we understand that Mohave County is a smoker’s paradise with a large number of users living there (twice as many smokers as the rest of the state) I guess that Arizona is a real ashtray by this time. I’m sorry but I can’t accept that information as being remotely accurate with the smaller population of the Mohave county and the total population of the state ~ can’t happen that would put too many people in Mohave County and their would be double the tobacco sales there compared to the entire state – and Phoenix alone is the 5th largest city in the country. Phoenix has a zip code that has more people living in it then the entire Mohave county, and you’re going to ask people to believe that there are twice the number of smokers there as the WHOLE state of Arizona?

UPDATED:
I stand correct ~ I found the information you're speaking about on this link.
http://www.co.mohave.az.us/csvcs/newsmc/docs/Tobacco1.pdf (broken link)
However it's 35% are smokers in the Mohave county ~ about 1/3 of the people smoke there, and 1/4 of the people in the other parts of the state.

We have heard over and over again that nearly half of the people in our area smoke.

The mayor smokes, several council members smoke....Smoking has been the norm.

Cigarette stores get deliveries several times a week, and they constantly sell out of cartons of cigarettes....A lot of people in this area buy their cigarettes in casino smoke shops in Laughlin, Nevada to save money....or at Indian casinos, etc.

What do you contribute the higher then normal percentage of smokers in your area? One out of three being a smoker seems higher then the national average.

In the last four decades, no doubt, the percentage of smokers has been reduced to almost half i.e. 21% today as compared to 42% in 1965, but the position hasn’t bettered after that. A decreasing trend has also been noticed in the number of high school senior smokers as 23% rate in 1999 and 17% in 1992 declined to 12% in 2006.

So with all the information that I’ve been able to read and cover to find some of the facts and interesting insight of smoking ~ can you give me five good reasons to start smoking? Or lets put it another way ~ Can you give me 5 good reasons for why you should smoke?

I know you have already read and heard information about why you shouldn’t smoke so I’m not going to bore you with providing any of the truthful and valid facts of knowledge about why you (and others) shouldn’t smoke.

I’ve looked at the stats and the information you’ve provided but I just can’t find any reason to start smoking. I would like to know why people want to spend money and enjoy their cigarettes? If you can’t give me 5 reasons then how about 3 ? Support your case with 3 reasons!

Scientific study about how nicotine can cure TB! Here's a link:

OrlandoSentinel.com: Science

My friend sent me the link. Here's what she wrote about her Mother:

It's strange because my mother had TB twice as a teen, then my parents divorced when she in her 30's.

She got TB again after the divorce.

Shortly after the last episode of TB, she took up smoking as a single woman and going out a lot with other smokers.

After starting to smoke she NEVER got TB again! I guess this is why this study intrigues me so.
