I thought a "phobia" was some type of extreme fear of something.

Simple disagreement, no matter how vehement, is not a "phobia" in and of itself. I can join a gay dude for a beer and have some laughs, but will tell him in a minute I don't agree with his choice of lifestyle. Just like I will tell a thief that stealing is wrong. But I think my association with the person would disprove a phobia. If I were phobic, I'd cross to the other side of the street if I thought I saw one coming.
