But, but, but, but - the American system provides the best health care on the planet to the people that can afford it. Isn't that what it is supposed to do?

You could be on to something there, Greg.

Lets see if some others can connect the dots, shall we?

"It also reveals 14% of the population - some 40 million Americans - lack the literacy skills to perform simple, everyday tasks such as understanding newspaper articles and instruction manuals"

To easy to comment on that.

"USA has 5% of the world's people but 24% of its prisoners "

People will say it is because of all the immigrants forgetting that the US is not the only country with immigrants.

I wonder how much of the 14%, are members of this forum?

Quite honestly that medical report is shocking :
I kept that report in reserve because it is important for the forum to see what a disingenuous lot we're dealing with on this site.

How there they attempt to criticise civilised countries in Europe.
We now know just how decrepid and how unequal there medical system is.

And I note the report is written by the Americans themselves.

Don't hold your breath.
We won't be replacing our system with an American system.
Just read the American Human Development Report 2008.
It makes terrible reading.

Our socio/economic system is superb here in Europe.
We won't be adopting an American model, thank you.

In case it has not been mentioned, Portugal reelected it socialist PM at the weekend. And the leftist block (more leftist than the socialists) has gained in strength.

Regarding Germany, it has to be mentioned that the leftist party Die Linke (way more leftist than the social democrats) have gained a lot of votes, but that party has been stigmatized ever since it was founded. It is similar to commie bashing in the US. I find that a very disturbing tendency to simply decide before the election that all votes going to a certain party will be ignored. Finally, millions of the traditional socialist voters did not even go to the polls this time because their party has moved too far to the right over the past couple of years. The way I see it Germans have not moved to the right at all, probably even to the left, although the results don't suggest that at first glance.

Have any of you ever tried to read an instruction manual for installing and loading a PC? Did you ever try to read a manual written in Japanglish? Or Koreagon? Or any manual written by a programmer? Or an IRS bureaucrat?

I have done all of these and the manuals are mostly incomprehensible. It is not the kids it is the writers.
