You are fast! Great news...Rio will make it a huge show, but it isn't a very safe city, so I'm not sure if it comes to unsafe cities who would be better, Rio or Chicago...

Axelrod: 'Politics' sank Obama's Olympics effort | Washington Examiner (http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/blogs/beltway-confidential/Axelrod-Politics-sank-Obamas-Olympics-effort-63278272.html - broken link)
Quote:
Top White House adviser David Axelrod says "politics" played a key role in the International Olympic Committee's decision to reject President Obama's appeal in support of Chicago's bid to host the 2016 Olympics.
Asked for details, Axelrod said, “I’m not suggesting anything nefarious…I’m not suggesting anything untoward happened. There are politics around every process, and there were here as well…There were relationships that paid off for some of the other cities.”
|
Hilarious! The Masters of Dirty Politics now whining about politics playing a role.
Hot Air » Blog Archive » Axelrod: We got robbed on Olympics because of “politics”

Why did Obama go to Copenhagen in the first place? He and his staff thought that he could use his supposedly tremendous international popularity to bully the IOC into picking Chicago. Now they’re complaining that the IOC had other politics to consider, and that somehow that was unfair.

I'm glad they got it, this is history and will be a lot of fun to watch. As far as safety goes, hopefully it will be ok.

It's not a loss for Obama, it's a loss for the country and especially the Midwest region in economic gains. Of course, you'd rather be vindictive and selfish, rather than think of the people it could have possibly helped. Disgusting!

Actually it's a big loss for Obama. Anytime the U.S. president invests political capital on the world stage and loses he, and the U.S., are diminished in the perception of others. For him to risk his political capital in this way was foolhardy and dangerous. And it showed him to be the ego-maniac that he is. Bill Clinton is immensely popular abroad and he could have represented Chicago's bid as capably as Obama. And if that bid failed it would not have been seen as a personal failure of the president. I don't know who is advising Obama but he needs to fire them and get someone with real-world experience. This show was strictly bush league.
