Unfortunately, for the Right, Senator Joe McCarthy has been dead for decades.
The relentless commie witch hunter spearheaded a frightfully anti-democratic era of American politics.
Most of today's Right avoids the word "communism" when talking about the current administration. My guess is that they use the word "socialism" because "communism" is too strong a suggestion to the McCarthy era. However, their tactics and strategies are very similar.
If he was alive today, would the Right carry him on their shoulders?
The answer is an easy yes. Beck is a watered down version, a two bit clown who they applaud daily.

Most pundits television/radio talkers today are nothing more than caricatures. Take a stance or position and then go overboard to the point where it distasteful, add some funny sound effects and turn up the volume and there you have it....Cable news.

S. government from the State Department to the military. Many have confused his investigations with those of the House Unamerican Activities Committee (HUAC) which targeted all kinds of people and groups, including Holloywood. That wasn't McCarthy's focus at all. He wanted to rid the government of communist infiltration which was, in fact, rampant. In doing so he stepped on some mighty important toes and, for that, he had to be taken down. Incidentally were you aware that Robert F. Kennedy served on his staff for a period of time and that McCarthy was godfather to one of Robert's kids? Truth be known the Kenndey's were staunchly anti-communist back then.

Facts, facts, facts. They were having so much fun until you came along with facts and ruined everything.

Certainly would and we have McCarthy wannabees. Many people learned the lessons of that shameful period in our nation's history, many haven't and many do not even know what you are referring to. His name is synonymous with witch hunt and persecution. I suppose there will always be bad seeds like Mccarthy and if you give them fertile ground, they will gain cheerleaders and notoriety.
