I've often wondered why whenever this issue gets raised it always seems to be the stereotypical black man / white women scenario.

For the record, It doesn't bother me. I stay out of other peoples love lives. Way, way out of them.

That is usually a good idea, or else you could end up on the Rikki Lake Show.

Is the baggage from its rabid Jim Crow past still so heavy in this day & age??

Print, cable and Hollywood simply won't touch the topic or even show a black guy kissing a white girl on screen (only sparingly). They'll even show 2 men kissing, but never the above mentioned.

Whats your opinion??

This must really bug you...a lot...since you keep opening threads on it.

My opinion is that as long as people keep making a big deal out it, it will remain a big deal. Oh, look! You're making a big deal out of it.

This was a valid concern maybe 50 years ago. However, these days, you're braver for speaking out against it than for supporting it. If someone (God forbid) actually disapproves of interracial couples and (even worse) actually says so out loud, the ridicule and hatred that he is exposing himself to is far, far worse than anything the interracial couple is likely to face. Unless that person is very careful who hears him, there is no end to the repercussions he may have to face for the henious crime of being a *GASP* racist.

IR racism, like most other forms of racism, is overblown. WW can't keep their hands off BM and it's getting that way between BW and WM too. In the grand scheme of things, the people against it is getting smaller and smaller.

Now, there is a view that BM go after WW becuase of the fact that they're white and seen as more valuebule. And to be honest, I've met BM who hold this view. It's disgusting, and it craps all over those who truly vaule individuals and not colors. So before you totally go ape**** over some redneck, look inside yourself first for said "racism".

I didn't realize this was still an issue. Where I live there are many IR couples. I don't know of a single person who is either shocked or appalled by this.

I think I'd have to cite Ron Paul (of all people) on this issue. I have dated a black woman before (I am not black), and race was not my concern. Race entered into our relationship via the opinions of others, but in the end, you have to live with yourself, and with your partner - you don't live in the mental world of others.

Anyhow, Ron Paul noted that the individual is the unit to which we assign things like civil rights, responsibilities, etc.

If you find love or companionship with an individual... then you've found something worth keeping. Race is a veneer. If you live your life on the basis of what other people have told you about certain 'veneers,' then you are condemning yourself to a limited view of the world, and you are being unfair to people who don't happen to fit into your preconceived frameworks.

While I admire your Ron Paul citation, I have to interject one thing...what you have posted here is a wonderful idea. However, it is not how people are wired. We have too many thousands, or millions, of years of evolution behind us to truly be able to completely ignore things such as skin color. Or hair color or gender or accents or how someone dresses. Human beings developed stereotypes, along with all the good and bad that goes with them, for a reason...survival. You couldn't simply give the benefit of the doubt to every wandering tribe you came across or your tribe would eventually get wiped out...we had to develop a healthy fear of the unknown and outsiders if we wanted to survive. That may not necessarily still be true today, but those instincts are still there, I'm afraid. I'm not sure if it could ever really truly be bred out of us or not...and I'm even less sure that it would be a good thing, even if we could...we need a healthy fear of the unknown sometimes, or we get ourselves in trouble. Kids need to be afraid of strangers, whether those strangers are black, white, or a stray dog.

Anyway, just wanted to add that to try and keep things in perspective.

[Sarcasm mode: on]
Because they (you know who you are) actually believe that once you have had black,
you never want to go back?

[Sarcasm mode: off]

I guess it is a case of insecurity (which often fuels racism).
