Politicians set policy. Generals advise politicians and implement policy.
Number of troops and tactics isn't foreign policy.

Bringing Bush into this conversation? Doubtful that 4000 of the military will die before Obama leaves office as they did under "The Commander Guy".

McChrystal isn't the only general to be in doo doo for speaking out...
Gen. George Casey - WhoRunsGov.com, a Wash Post Co
Quote:
From the summer of 2004 until February 2007, Casey was the top U.S. commander in Iraq during a particularly bloody and challenging time in the war that eventually led to the Bush administration "surging" the number of U.S. troops in the country to combat violence.

During Casey's tour in Iraq, he battled with the Bush administration over U.S. troops levels in the war-torn country.

In fall 2005, Bush rebuked Casey for openly discussing plans to reduce troop levels — which then stood at 138,000 — by 30,000 in early 2006. Bush played down the reduction plan as "speculation" because he said he feared that even discussing options for an "exit strategy" implied a weakening resolve.

Obama almost as bad as Bush....kind of crazy rationalisation but if that is all you have I guess you go with it.

Like it or not a general serves the president. we do not want a miltary Coupe even with Obama. we must preserve the right for a presiden to change generals Just as Bush changed to Petrezzie. Bush had a right to make that generl change because he was the president. Obama is the president he has the right

The chain of command has been busy trying to win the olympics and can't be bothered by our troops being threatened.

Again this is not about foreign policy,it is about HOW the war will be fought on the ground.

That IS why we have Generals.
