That's the difference. He wasn't like Bush 1 who said "Read my lips: No New Taxes"

I was actually hoping he'd institute a prostitute, weed and gambling tax so we could gain some actual revenue.

YouTube - Barack Obama's version of "read my lips NO NEW TAXES"

He was pretty clear that middle income folks will not have new taxes, as he enumerated many different kinds and generalized at the end. "NOTHING" was the generalization.

I'm confused, how will substituting the health care costs of workers with an additional tax on manufacturers lower the price of the product, isn't it just replacing one cost with another?

No. He said the middle class would not see a TAX increase of any kind.

He also said he would not sign a healthcare bill into law unless it was deficit neutral and did not raise taxes on the middle class, yet according to Pelosi, they're going to go for the VAT AFTER the healthcare is passed and perhaps attach the VAT to other legislation.

BTW, the UK pays a VAT of 17% on EVERYTHING, including food. No thanks.

Just because he says it isn't a tax, doesn't make it so.

No - It is a reverse tariff.

I guess the math out there in San Francisco is different from regular math.

I doubt it will pass. We have enough Blue Dog Democrats and Republicans to make sure it doesn't go through.

Even as a liberal I don't support this reverse tariff.

Let's hope so. We can't afford this right now. People are hurting right now.
