If there are any African Americans who were slaves, they should not forgive or forget, but since they would be 150 years old, there are none.

Forgive for what?
Not of us was alive or involved in that so why should anyone believe that the current people should be held accountable.
We all knew it happened and it is time to move on and forget about it.
I personally get tired of hearing about what is owed someone for something that happened 150 years ago.
Get over it and move on with your life.
My Grandpa is owed for his and his family suffering through WWII but I never heard him ask for a handout or a thank you. And his generation was the best there ever was or will be.
Many people have suffered as much if not more then the slaves did so people need to stop believing it was the ultimate bad thing.
I never felt it was right but also believe it is time for go on and stop whining about something no one alive today had anything to do with.

Yet another dumb proposition in a long line of dump racialist threads.
Coming Soon: Should Jews Forgive Hitler and the Nazis for the Holocaust?!

I believe we should forgive but not forget. Asking if black Americans should forget slavery is tantamount to asking someone to forget Pearl Harbor, or future generations to forget 9/11. It should continue to be taught in our schools, because it is a part of the history of this country. Now, should we dwell on it? Absolutely not!

America did not invent slavery. But we ended it here, for us. End of story.
What's to forgive? We ended it.

Yea, you didnt end it, the country fought a bloody war with the southern part of itself who vehemently believed in white supremacy and the natural state of slavery for people of african descent.
Then the nation reinstated it in the south only via other means (share cropping, jim crow, etc).
During its tenure, slavery contributed (what amounts to now with interest) trillions of dollars toward the nations wealth, and allowed the nation to develop at the rate it did to reach industrialization at the time it did, rather than 60-70 years later.
Asking should blacks forgive for slavery is like asking should jews forgive the nazis for the holocaust since they ended up with Israel again, or should native americans forgive america for ethnically cleansing them and stealing their lands. A preposterous notion.

There are no black people alive today who were slaves. The black people today that remain slaves are those that are placated by the public dole and beholdin for their penance to the liberal left. Many are well educated and have joined mainstream society and created a new legacy for their children in harmony with white america, one america. The remainder need to quit whining, role up their sleeves and join mainstream society.

I have no idea what is there to forgive for something that happened long ago. Should the American Indians (including the ones who didn't like being called "Indians") forgive Americans for what was done to them long ago? How about mexican Americans? Should Mexican Americans forgive Americans for what we did to them long ago? We took a whole bunch of lands from them on the Southern States; should we let them have their land back as a token of forgiveness?
If that's the case, then what is stopping "forgiveness" all the way back to the time we humans lived in caves?
