In your opinion, should African Americans forgive America for slavery? (statistics, Brown)

Slavery and racism are two different things.

Slavery knew no color. Certainly Africans were enslaved and shipped to the Americas. But slavery was always a worldwide phenomenon and was not unique to the Americas. Indeed, over a period of time, several hundred thousand Europeans were enslaved by the Barbary pirates. So, apologies for slavery? Where do you start. Should Italians apologize for slavery under the Romans, Algerians for the Barbary pirates, Egyptians for the Pharoes, etc. etc.

For America today, racism is a more pressing issue than slavery. I believe that tremendous progress has been made but there is still much work to do. So lets focus on what matters and apologizing for slavery does not really matter.

A separate restroom for Negroes Only is a huge "slap in the face" to Negroes.

It is basically saying that Negroes are not "good enough" to share a bathroom with white people (or Asians, or Mexicans, or anyone else).

How can you not see this?

Separate bathrooms for different sexes is done for moral reasons. Men and women to not want to expose their genitals in front of strangers of the opposite sex, as it could lead to unwarranted sexual advances and rape.

I think that it isn't up to the current generation--black, white or otherwise--to "forgive" anyone for events that took place more than a century ago. The best move of all is to make sure nothing like that ever happens again, and let's try moving forward.

Whats to forgive, any black alive today should be grateful they live in America just like every other person no matter what color they are.
