There is a big difference between "promoting" and financing the general welfare of the people !

Big difference between defense and offense too, eh? Or is that something you'd rather conveniently overlook?

No, would you? And your point would be? Would you have told FDR to invade, oh say, Iraq, because?

Are you suggesting that the governments job is to buy an aspirin and split it among the general population? I have a headache today and could use an aspirin, but somehow I dont think splitting an aspirin among the 300,000,000 will result in enough of an aspirin big enough to do much.

I bet you think the fact that it would be provided by the govt and not out of my own pocket is enough to simply cure all..

The ignorance of not only our constitution but also the events that led up to our involvement in WWII (going back to 1933) is staggering.

I'm not suggesting anything. I'm stating that promoting the general welfare is also ONE of the responsibilities of the Federal government, as tasked by the Constitution. Something you seem perfectly willing to overlook for no other reason than a lack of conformity with your narrow little view of the world.

It seems you think? defense is the only responsibility of the Federal government, that's simply not true.

Buying an aspirin is for the INDIVIDUAL welfare, unless your buying one because EVERYONE needs one? Do you need an aspirin? Does EVERYONE need one? I seriously doubt it, so unless EVERYONE needs an aspirin, the government buying one for ANYONE is for the INDIVIDIUAL welfare.

Do you not understand the difference between an individual, and general?

I understand that 'general' refers to all or most members of a group, which logic would hold the government being responsible for promoting the welfare of the entire group., you know, "general welfare", like in the Constitution? Good health being a necessity to well-being (a definition of welfare), EVERYONE needs access to affordable healthcare, what part of that SIMPLE concept is it you're unable to comprehend?

Wow, you understand that "general" means most, but now moving from an aspirin, to health care, so you are opposed to national health care then because its only for 5% right? After all, national health care is for those who dont have insurance, not for the mass population that does.
