What is this Franken gang rape thing anyway? Can someone kindly explain it? Sure it sounds like a good idea, but then a quick look shows that it refers to something related to "Halliburton". So, is Franken just playing politics? He's an angry, angry little man. If the gang rape legislation would do anything to help stop prison rape then that would be something just and useful. That's the majority of cases in America, and we know who most of the victim are, and who the perps are. But of course, angry Franken is not focused on that, at all.

LOL. Come on. The democrats played politics with it, and then get all huffy when people don't buy into their plan. Comical at best.
Yes, it is. Do you know what this Amendment is in regards to? I suggest you do your research.

It most definitely should be an Amendment to a defense spending authorization. Explain to me what it shouldn't be.

Maybe I am reading this wrong... but...

H.R. 3326: Department of Defense Appropriations Act, 2010 (GovTrack.us)

It took 15 tries to get this bill to pass the house. The first vote was 269 yes and 165 no.

When it finally did pass the house 230 democrats voted "yes", 27 democrats voted "no". 170 republicans voted "yes" and 3 republicans voted "no".

Hmm.... something stinks.

Why don't you try reading it yourself instead of just making your own assumptions?

A woman was gang raped while working for a defense contractor. Instead of reporting this to authorities, the contractor held her in a container for 24 hours. She got a message to her father, her father had to call his congressperson and they were able to intervene and get her released.

She now cannot press charges as her employment contract with said contractor prohibits it - they deal with all sexual assaults through an arbitrator provided by the company.

This Amendment states that we will NOT provide funding to defense contractors that have such clauses in their employment contracts.

You're reading the bill in general - not the amendment to the bill as discussed here. The first vote was not on the bill in general, it was on that specific amendment to the bill (Amendment 1).

GovTrack: S.Amdt. 2588: To prohibit the use of funds for any Federal... to H.R. 3326: Department of Defense Appropriations... (Vote On Amendment)

This is the link to the Amendment.

The reason it is related to Halliburton is due to the fact a woman who worked for KBR was gang raped by a co-workers and fine print in her contract barred her from taking legal action. What this legislation would do is to prohibit Government funding to contractors that bar rape victims from taking legal action.

As far as Fraken being angry, he has every right to be angry. Hell we should all be angry over this and anyone who isn't angry and sickened by this should seek help immediately.

...I looked at the link. Some Republicans did vote for it. The 30 that did not...and there are people trying to defend them...wow!!!

As stand-alone legislation all 30 would have supported it. Fact. As a rider to a bill already opposed it is not going to get support.

Did you even listen to Sessions's comments? It sure as hell doesn't sound like he would ever support this......

As far as riders to a bill already opposed, people vote for riders in bills they oppose all the time btw the full bill passed 93-7....
