For me, life is just too short to focus on the minutiae.

HOLY CRAP! YOU ARE PICKY!

Hell, after growing up in Los Angeles, I get excited when a person can speak basic english. As long as I can understand them, I don't give a s*** how they pronounce their words!

I know this is common nowadays but it still bugs me no end.
Some things bother me more then other things.

If anyone has an interest in language, this is a great book written for lay people by a linguistics professor.

If you are strongly of the belief that there IS one "right" way to speak a language, you will be disappointed. It's pretty fascinating how language changes constantly, and the author can be humorous at times, as well.

Sorry, you said it annoyed you when people said UMbrella. Perhaps you are annoyed by the accent on the wrong syllable and not the word itself.

How about veHICKLE or persons instead of people. The plural of person is not persons. Its people.
