I could have afforded that in college. Is it that some people are really cheap and want handouts? I don't get it.
I understand if your budget is soooo tight that $145 is out of budget, but then downsize your budget. If you have a family, then yes, that would be even more difficult. But what's more important to you? That nice new car, or health insurance? My dad, while getting his Ph.D, drove the UGLIEST car ever. Paint chipping off, rusting, 2 door bucket with wheels. He was laughed at for ages. Before he was laid off this year, he and my mother were making six figures together, and have some of the best healthcare.
It's about priorities, imo. If you're single, with no kids in this country, to me it sounds doable.

How old are you?
Was this a QUOTE or have they actually looked into your medical history to see any diseases or whatever you've had in the past?
What is the deductible?
Sure it's doable now but once you're older and have a higher chance of having health problems, let's see if they'll be charging you $145.
A friend of mine, his mom had a bout of breast cancer in the past. His step-dad lost his job and of course...they lost health insurance. Just to insure the mother it was $800. $800 a month for ONE person for health insurance. The deductible was also $5,000.
$800 a month x 12 (12 months in a year) is $9,600.
9,600 + 5,000 is 14,600. About $15,000 just for health INSURANCE!
That's also leaving out the co-insurance they wanted on major surgery. Say the surgery was $10,000 and they want you to pay 20 percent. That's 2,000. Okay, $17,000 right there.
Ridiculous.
I'd rather just have single payer.
Even if you're single and don't have kids, it doesn't mean you can just automatically afford health insurance. I know plenty of single people without kids that can't afford health insurance.
Not everyone can just call up a health insurance company and be quoted for $145 a month. Depending on your health history, it can be a lot more than $145.
You were just lucky. Plenty of people are denied health insurance.

I really don't see the democrats holding the house in 2010 after this fiasco. And there is no way Obama is getting re elected. Most people are against government control of healthcare. The only people that seem to be for it are welfare recipients and others that are dependent on government handouts. The democrats have made certain people dependent on handouts so now they know they don't have to work for what they can get from us tax payers.

Someone should not be forced to pay for anothers health insurance
NO ONE should be forced to purchase insurance

$250K is not rich by any means and I'm sure those couples making $250K do not own yachts. What if they also have 4 kids ?
$250K will just scrape by in places like NYC or cities in California.
Why are so many people so jealous of others making decent salaries and quick to categorize them as "rich" ?

But..but Obama said it's their "right". If they can't pay it then someone else has to foot their bill.
Just remember..almost 50% pay no Federal income taxes..they have nothing to lose and everything to gain by demanding their rights.

I know. Isn't it a shame? So far the only country government run health care has really worked in is Taiwan. But they have to borrow money from foriegn banks to pay for it. Is that what we want to end up doing?
