An overwhelming proportion of those below poverty line consistently voted Republican, if you drive through parts of the south, (particularly West NC,Kentucky, etc.) die-hard old school Democrats have been replaced with Republican supporters who live in trailers. They vote on only 2 isssues that I can see; guns and abortion, none of them seem to work,so I guess the economy isn't relevant to them?

You would know the answer if you went to church with them and listened to their pastor's rants on those issues, especially abortion and pro-war rhetoric.

People vote along religious lines, end of story really. Without much information to go on and without research people will vote for those they think might express their values. If you are not Christian to many hard core people, it doesn't matter what you do or what you believe, you are are the enemy. The thing is many people don't realize that stereotyping a set of values based on expressions in certain areas of life (political, religious, employment, and on) is often an incorrect assumption, even worse when many don't make any allowance that people can lie.

The amount of speculation, disinformation, accusations, and stereotypes in your little post is astounding and just screaming of elitism.

Is it that hard to understand why some people, even poorer than dirt, would vote based on their conscience and principles, specifically about HOW the country is supposed to run, regardless of they will personally see any benefit to the vote?

Benjamin Franklin - "When people realize that they can vote themselves money, that will hearld the end of the republic"

Something many people on the left just can't seem to wrap their head around. I have known many many poor people who have accepted that they don't have alot of money, but still understand the basic principles and foundations the country was founded upon and accept them for the same reasons the founders did.... even if they won't benefit. That is selfless.

Similar to many poor and uneducated urban voters who voted for Obama in 2008?

Even more astounding are the people who pawn all of these people off as the "religious right" and claim they are ignorant because they themselves can't see how shallow and self serving their own political ideologies are.

Most poor people vote Democrat because they are or need the social services Democrats "promise". Trailor courts have just as many if not more democrats as republicans unless you can PROVE different. Why does an overwhelming proportion of poor homosexuals vote Democrat? They vote on only 2 isssues that I can see; their gayness and gay marriage (and possibly legalized drugs).

It's probably just misinformation and ignorance.

Well that's always a stock and trade of the left. To the left, there is no possible alternative or other way to look at the world but theirs that isn't somehow brought about by racism or ignorance. Given that outlook, anyone who disagrees or takes action in disagreement must be "ignorant" and "redneck" and whatever other name calling they want to throw out. There can be no honest disagreement on issues in the eyes of the left.

Just look at the current healthcare debate to see a case in point. Pelosi and Co tried to explain away the protest and other dissent by saying it was "astroturf" instead of grassroots, and by describing protesters as extremists and all kinds of other names.
