Los Angeles – Growing youth violence in the United States will not be resolved until we find the moral courage to address the racial issues that underlie it.

During a Chicago school visit earlier this month to the site where a black honor student was beaten to death by a mob of black students, Attorney General Eric Holder stated that growing youth violence in America is not just "a black problem," but a problem for all races. The trouble with this statement is that it is statistically untrue.

the real problem is that these minorities are told by their schools and government (school is an indoctrination camp owned and operated by government after all) ...

that they are nothing but one person, and that this is a socialistic America, where groups are more important than individuals...

Socialism (which public school is) , causes these kids to have no hope for their futures. These kids have simply not been taught about individualism, the free market (a true free market, not what we currently have), the Natural Rights they have, etc, etc...

They have felt powerless since 1st grade all the way till senior year... they were never given any empowerent to believe in themselves. They were only told that government and others must provide for them through welfare and laws and programs.. They did not have the slightest idea that they could make change happen themselves, by providing and making for themselves on their own merit.

After all, public school is nothing but a Rehabilitation Center for all the youth. Where they are forced to go, and to learn everything the teacher spews out , and everything the socialistic slanted textbooks teach. The teachers taught the kids to love and to honor government instead of God. The teachers dare not bite the hand that feeds them.

So yea, the reason minorities commit crime the most is b.c they are the ones forced into these public schools. The white people send their children to private school or home-school to avoid the indoctrination.

And yes there are some other reasons why blacks commit more crime, and it usually has to do with parents not being there for them, and the fact that the majority of them live in liberal cities, where the governments treat them like crap, and make it impossible for them to make it on their own by starting a small business or affording a decent place to live with the high taxation. And also the deterioration of civil liberties in those cities.

A terribly simplistic article. The problem with the causality suggest is that it is also not true. Let's consider 100 of the types of animals, 13-18 years old, that killed that poor kid.

* How many of them have two married parents who live together?
* How many of their parents have been incarcerated for any lengthy period time?
* How many of them persist with illegal activities?
* How many of them have single parents with multiple partners and step-siblings?
* How many of them have a single parent dedicated only to them?
* How many parents work more than one job?
* How many parents go to school part/full time to help better their kids' lives?
* How many parents parent well and how many are a disaster?

I think that we will find causes for the transformation from baby to animal/monster is likely explained by...
1. The lack of a stable family
2. Incarceration of one or more parent for a lengthy period of time.
3. Continued illegal activity of one or more parent
4. Decision of parents to have more babies (an actual welfare strategy http://cbs2chicago.com/local/Robeson.High.School.2.1251642.html (broken link)) through more partners
5. Rotten parenting

However, I would not be surprised to find that a decent percent of these kids, say 20%, have
1. Dedicated Parent(s)
2. Parent(s) who work multiple jobs and/or go to school to better their lot
3. Good parents who teach good values.

Yet, their kids still turn into the animals and monsters we see. So what explains these 20%?
* Neighborhood
* Peers & Peer Pressure
* Laziness or Incompetence of the child
* Lack of Skills for conventional employment

Say that explains 15% of the 20%, what about the 5%?
* Poor schools
* Lack of community investment
* Bad regional economy

Say this explains 4%...leaves 1%
* Current Racism (with several things above reflecting past racism)

So what to reasonably surmise?
1. Current racism probably does not explain that much
2. The legacy of past racism >> current racism and features heavily although indirectly
3. A reasonable number parents are probably parenting quite well, but made mistakes as teens or young adults that pretty much doomed them and their kids to a life of poverty and in some cases to the life of animals
4. Many Young mothers deepen their crisis by having more children with multiple partners or by choosing to wrong partners.
5. There are many rotten parents

One cannot simply blame everything on bad parenting. Nor can one cry racism, at least not current racism. Finally, may of the conditions that lead some mothers to be "managing" these young animals were really determined well before they became parents.

I would like to think that enlightened public policy and charities would reach out to those "good parents" before their kids have built up enough hate to transform into the animals on the street. Similarly, I would like to think that enlightened civil bodies can indentify the good criminals whose only crime really is to grow up poor. These folks are worth our investments. But to do so, we MUST abandon a large amount of public assistance to those who do not satisfy the criteria used to identify the hopeful.

These are the welfare queens, habitual drug offenders, child abusers, thugs, and apathetic. Why on God's green earth should they get food stamps? Or any kind of public assistance? Their biggest addiction is not drugs, bad men, or laying on their backs, but readily accessible welfare. http://www.mlive.com/flintjournal/index.ssf/2008/11/flint_mother_latrica_ryan_of_1.html (broken link).

A final note: I should remind that I am only talking about the parents of the animals, not of all Black parents or families. Save those 20% and there is still hope that these 20% can turn things around. But treat them all the same, and all 100% will be doomed to perpetuate their poverty and despair. And for the the 80%? Leave the door open and light on. Allow them access to public services (retraining, employment agencies), but allow them to come to society rather than do as we do know, come to them and effectively provide the funds for their fixes.

Wow, as if I thought the far right would not get any more crazy. Is is possible that just maybe, oh, just maybe...there is an underlying economic inequality caused by...I don't know...over 200 years of racial inequality in this nation.

Public schools are not the culprit. Rather, the whole issue of wealth is at hand as well. Poorer communities typically have higher crime rates. There are a whole myriad of reasons. Lack of overall services for the youth, higher unemployment rates, poor mental health facilities, a cycle of crime to survive, as well as many others.

Smaller, more individually focused schools, as well as more collaboration with institutions of higher learning would bode well. Also, cheaper healthcare to reduce the burden of costs. Parents would thus have more time with thier children. Better public housing would also help things quite a bit. If we follow a mixed income model in the inner cities, this would greatly improve the inner city.

Look, at the root of it, it's that years of racism led to the current economic inequality we have today.

But it isn't my fault minorities continue to take low-paying jobs, there are so many ways to get an education in this country that anyone legal or not can get ahold of them.

I still say that the majority of black folks in these low/no income inner city neighborhoods who have the mental capacity, ability, inclination and initiative to get out of this situation have done so. Those who come along who have the ability to get out will continue to do so. The majority who remain do not have the ability to compete in school, for jobs or on the job.

Illegitimacy and poor parenting are but two of the social pathologies associated with low IQ. Studies have shown that people with low IQ are at extreme risk for poor life outcomes and social pathologies including illegitimacy, poor parenting skills, poor academic performance, crime, incarceration, poverty, etc.

Society and the labor market will never be able to utilize all of its low IQ individuals. There will always be certain segments of society that will have to be provided for by the rest of society. That is the whole reason behind Obama's philosophy of spreading the wealth, wealth redistribution, universal healthcare and education and all of the other social programs.

The only argument between the conservatives and liberals is to what degree or standard of living should these non-producers be carried and how much will it cost the rest of society.

I think you are very misguided here. You call these people "non-producers", and say they need assistance from others, like money and food to survive...

How many real non-producers are there in this country?

I define a non-producer, or someone that is not capable of working, as disabled, or handicapped in some way.

There is not very many of these people in America.

As long as you can think somewhat normally and clothe yourself, you are able to work at a computer doing simplistic things that need to be done, or work at a mindless physical job of a factory line.

The problem is that Obama and Liberals/Socialists/Marxists define non-producers as anyone who has hit a rough patch in their life or could possibly hit a rough patch in their life. So they see all of society as needing this safety net and redistribution of wealth. Not just the people that are actually not capable of producing. Because they apply it to all of society, many Lazy people start to appear, and use the welfare programs for as long as they can. Government forced redistribution of wealth creates Lazy People and Criminals. Because it is the government stealing from individuals pocket books, and giving to someone else after they take their own cut for the cost of their stealing service. The government does not care who receives the left over funds.

In a free country, where citizens own their own property and government is only there to protect people's rights, redistribution of wealth would not occur by the strong hand of government.

In this form of capitalist society (what we have today is not capitalism, we have corporatism with many forms of socialism) , the non-producers are taken care of by charities and neighbors and family members. Barely any Lazy People or criminals occur in this VOLUNTARY type of redistribution of wealth. Since the people voluntarily give their money and time, and have a say in who receives it. They will eventually stop giving to someone who is abusing the system, or they will not even start giving to someone that doesn't really need their help. So this system has very little dead-weight loss, unlike a big governmental program.

Capitalism creates prosperity for everyone.

Corporatism is a form of SOCIALISM .. In Corporatism the government owns /has a lot of say or monetary value .. in businesses.

In capitalism the business owners are actual citizens.
In Corporatism/Socialism, the business owners are the Government and very special interest citizens who really work for government as well.

So if you don't like Big Business, you would be foolish to support Socialism. B.c Socialism in America today, and in the future, is nothing but Corporatism of Big Business merging with Big Government.

At least in Capitalism, if a business screws you over, you can run to the government for protection and the government will hopefully force the business to honor any contracts they had with you, and research any crimes you say the business committed against you, like fraud.

However, in socialism/corporatism, if the government and it's business screws you over, the government is not going to protect you b.c to do so would only hurt them.

I disagree. The question here is how to explain the difference between the kid who was killed (black, honors student son of a single Mom) and the animals that killed him (also black). Much harder to answer. Lumping it to "200 years of racial inequality" is intellectually dishonest and does not allow for any reasonable progress in terms of public policy.

As for public schools, again, playing the ideological card is counterproductive. The public schools in the worst areas are like death traps. The original push for vouchers came from inner city parents no longer willing to accept the local public death trap. Instead, the question is over those specific schools.

The cycles are of course perpetuated by a number of factors, particularly past legacy of institutional racism. However, self-inflicted behavior and an unwillingness to distinguish between good parents and kids and the thugs are as important. Explaining everything using ""200-400 years of racism," while a nice vent, unfortunately does not move us anywhere nearer to resolutions! These take much deeper research to link cause to effect and problem to policy. We need reality, people to get their hands dirty, brutal honesty, listeners, observers. We don;t need flighty elitists dreaming of utopia, resumes, or becoming patrons saints to the poor.

Smaller schools? These are way down the priority list. Instead, a holisitic solution is needed, including policies that ultimately place success/failure on the shoulders of parents and students. These can be no other way.

Cheaper healthcare? What? Stick to the topic. Most of the urban poor are off the health care grid. ENough with failed Dem propaganda!

Collaborations with higher education? LOL!! What an elitist! Since when has Yale cared about New Haven? USC about South Central? UCB about Oakland/Richmond? Columbia about Harlem? Emory about Atlanta? Penn about Philly? They have been places to add lines on resumes and to assuage guilt. What these schools should do is pay corporate taxes and move their programs from inner city candy and subsidies to enabling these population to find their own solutions.

Public housing--in some fashion this can work, but again, with conditions far more aggressive than they have been.

45 years of failure since 1964. One would think that the Dems would have been clued in by now.

You may still say that, but, it doesn't hold true. I will use the neighborhood that Derrion Albert was killed as an example, since for one, I can speak on it, and for two, it was the area that was looked at by the article.

Many stay in this neighborhood because they have been here for years, and don't want to leave their houses. There are Doctors, Nurses, Lawyers, Music Producers etc... that all live in the neighborhood talking about. There is many in the neighborhood that work at the Hospital that is in the middle of the neighborhood. This hospital is ranked in the top 5% of the nation for Pulminary Care. There are some in the area that are full time college students, and some that due to economics are working full time and part time college. A lot of these same people don't move out of the neighborhood for varioius reasons. Most are not because they don't have the proper intellect, it is because they want to make a change, or it is the only place they know, many just feel that since it is their home, they shouldn't be ran out, and stay to stand up for themselves.

Morals and responsibility and discipline come from the person. Not from money or status.
Whether a person is a white millionaire or a black getto youth it is the decision of each to decide what is right or wrong.
Good and bad comes from the heart of the person.
Blaming the system is just an easy excuse for being a failure.
Doesn't matter if you are white, black, rich, or poor.
Some of the richest most educated whites have commited heinous acts.
Some of the poorest blacks have went on to to become outstanding citizens that contributed to the the betterment of all of us.
It's the backbone and perserverance of the individual to obtain their dreams that matters.
The good and bad of each person is a choice.
Status and money or color has nothing to do with it.
If you want to be a good person, you can be. No matter what your background is.
