Please Don't Tell Me That Private Enterprise Is More Efficient Than Government.
I just spent days getting my internet service moved from one office to another (Verizon) and once our brand new FIOS system was installed, we discovered that none of the PC's would connect (the Macs worked like a charm). Verizon's initial response, you need to call the computer manufacturer or Microsoft. The computer manufacturer, call Verizon! I wasn't about to call Micro****.
I spent the better part of yesterday, trying to figure out why I received 6 robo calls from UPS notifying me that a package was in transit, had delivery attempted or need special instructions but when I called to inquire about what package they were referring to, THEY COULDN'T TELL ME, because my phone number wasn't in the system?!?!?
On the other hand...
I lost my passport and need one for a business trip pronto. Passport office, all the information I needed, one call, one human. Needed new birth certificate, one phone call, one human, got new certificate of live birth, thank you very much. No sweat, no hassle.
So what was that about the inherent superiority of the private sector??

You can choose to stop doing business with them until they get their act together. You cannot choose to stop paying taxes until the government gets its act together.

Hardly.
My business is heavily internet dependent. I have two choices, Verizon or Comcast, neither of which are very responsive to customer complaints.
The same goes for parcel services, it is UPS, Fedex or the USPS further I have no control of which service a supplier choses to use.
Of course none of this is relevant to the point. I find little significant efficiencies scale between government agencies and large corporations, although with the former, I can get results by complaining to my local Congressman, council persons or other elected representatives. I can't do that with Verizon.

Private sector works when the person who got it started, has invested his/her time, money and sweat to build is still working at it. When it is taken over by crooks, the incompetents and majority share holders, then it simply becomes a source of quick income. There is no accountability. I know, because I work for one of the companies mentioned in the OP.

Your comparison with advance technology to getting a passport is not valid.
I have dealt with Qwest before and they are not the greatest. In fact, I do get compensated for their screw-ups after I point them out to them.
If the internet on the macs are working and its not on the PC's, then why are you so quick to blame your internet company? You have a connection.

Yep, I have been trying for over 5 weeks to get some parts for vacuum cleaners here just over 275 miles from the "store" in Oklahoma City. Fed Ex says they have a signed delivery form but the actual address was 101 and they got 110. Now there is no 110 on that street and anybody from UPS knows where that bank is. Well now after two weeks UPS hasn't got it done yet either. I want USPS because I know they have 4 day service but those people just won't ship that way. Guess who will soon be informed that surely there is a more efficient bunch than Fed Ex of UPS. Obama doesn't understand but I do. USPS beats the hell out of those two private companies.

lol. You take one little personal instance of using a private company and a personal instance of using a government service, compare them and conclude that one is more efficient than the other.

An alternative viewpoint: Perhaps the economy, which has wreaked havoc on businesses and now boast fewer employees, are finding it hard to keep up with customer service calls; whereas the government, with its infinite number of taxpayer dollars, have hired thousands of new employees and are perhaps outperforming in the field of customer service?
