What do you think?
And just who would do the jobs some men consider 'too unmanly' for them to do?

Oh that's simple!....those "unimportant, low paying" jobs are reserved for women, minorities and the elderly(racISM, sexISM, ageISM)....they just aren't good enough for the Royal Male!!!

Still is, it just sounds a bit different because the ideas of love and romance are a bit different to our children and grandchildren than they were to us. As my mother said to me and I said to my children, 'just because your love doesn't look like mine and your music doesn't sound like mine, that doesn't mean it is less valid.'

And plenty of the kids today still have respect for their elders, and some of those without their fathers in the home are better off for it. When you look for the bad in life, you tend to ignore the good. That is why I have always made it a habit to look for the good in life and in others before allowing myself to see any bad. (that's another of those lessons I learned from my mother, who, BTW, grew up during the depression)

Didn't know what to do with this email, so I put it here.

A SPANISH Teacher was explaining to her class that in Spanish, unlike English, nouns are designated as either masculine or feminine.

'House' for instance, is feminine: 'la casa..'

'Pencil', however, is masculine: 'el lapiz.'

A student asked, 'What gender is 'computer'?'

Instead of giving the answer, the teacher split the class into two groups, male and female, and asked them to decide for themselves whether computer' should be a masculine or a feminine noun.

Each group was asked to give four reasons for its recommendation.

The men's group decided that 'computer' should definitely be of the feminine gender ('la computadora'), because:

1. No one but their creator understands their internal logic;

2. The native language they use to communicate with other computers is incomprehensible to everyone else;

3. Even the smallest mistakes are stored in long term memory for possible later retrieval; and

4. As soon as you make a commitment to one, you find yourself spending half your paycheck on accessories for it.

The women's group, however, concluded that computers should be Masculine ('el computador'), because:

1. In order to do anything with them, you have to turn them on;

2. They have a lot of data but still can't think for themselves;

3. They are supposed to help you solve problems, but half the time they ARE the problem; and

4. As soon as you commit to one, you realize that if you
had waited a little longer, you could have gotten a better model.

The women won.

That's been going on for as long as I can remember and includes both my grandmothers. It would never have occurred to either of them not to work and contribute. If women want to make the choice to marry, stay home and work I take no issue with that at all and find it a very fulfilling and commendable choice and completely their choice to make. However I've never really wanted to be married, will probably never have children and the idea that women should not work in preference to male only workforce would only end up with me completely losing my autonomy and my independence because if I'm not working and earning my own money where would you suggest that I go?
Pakistan perhaps? Saudi Arabia maybe? Or I could be one of those women in India who have become widowed and are cast out on the street by their families to become beggars. Perhaps I could go take up house with my Dad and have him provide for me? Or I suppose I could enter into a marriage contract with some guy who's desperate for a live in house keeper........maybe I should have just not been born a girl child in the first place? I hear that's a big problem in China.

I'm not sure where the idea there was a time when women didn't work came from, I'd venture to say if not for the women of the war effort it would be a very different landscape we would live in today. Women have always worked, they just haven't always been renumerated or recognized for it, in some places they still aren't. I'm grateful I live in a country where as a woman I am not a second class citizen and I am afforded all the rights and responsibilities that come along with that. One of the most basic rights is the right to renumeration for your work effort. By all means be happy with your choices but please don't attempt to whittle away mine.
Wanted to rep you, but apparently I must have done elsewhere in the last 24-46 hours. So consider this my rep to you,

I worked for BNSF railroad for many years. I don't know if some of you are familiar with the railroad, but its a little like trucking but much more organized. The hiring policy for BNSF up until recently was always to try to hire family members of other railroaders. There are many whole families that work for the railroad.

I know, it doesn't make much sense right? What companies actually pursue whole families to work for them? Usually its the other way around.

The reason why has to do with the railroad lifestyle. A railroader might leave their home, ride on a train for 10-12 hours to a destination, stay in a hotel for a day, then ride back home on a train for 10-12 hours back home. Once they get home, they are usually only given enough time to sleep and not much more before being called out again on another train. They are always on-call, they can't really make plans outside of their vacation days. They don't know when they'll be home.

It takes a special kind of person to be a railroader, their divorce rate is through the roof, and their kids barely know them. Most people do not want to be a railroader and many don't stay in the railroad for long. But, the kids that are raised by the railroad parent know what the railroad life is like, so they are much more likely to be more understanding and tolerant of it.

So the question I ask you is, do you think railroaders make good parents? Why do you feel that way?

Do you think both parents working outside of the home, and kids coming home after school to an empty house, and being alone all day long during school vacation days(summer) is a good thing?

You feel the way you do based on your own experiences in life, and I am sure many will not share your opinions. So the question is, is there always a "right answer"? I like to believe the right answer is the one that makes the world a better place. The right answer isn't only right if EVERYONE agrees with it.

The world was a better place when women stayed at home with their kids and actually raised them, instead of pawning them off on daycare or outright abandoning them.

Were there exceptions? Of course. Were there bad mothers? Of course. Were there abusive fathers? Sadly, yes. But just because there are a few bad apples doesn't mean you scrap the whole system.

What do you think?
This is a personal choice. If women want to work, that's fine.

What I find discouraging is that in these days (from around the late 70's maybe), they have to for a family to have enough income to survive.

It used to be an option. Now, it's necessary.

I do not understand why there is even a poll like this? Women and men are equal so I voted strongly disagree. I also would have had no problem with Hilary becoming President.
