It is such a vastly superior system that effectively keeps down costs, which has been proven time and again in other countries.
Since the 1980s, Germany has enacted and implemented 14 health care reforms
The current reform is designed to ensure that the country will be able to finance future health care expenses in light of disproportionately rising health care costs

Obama: Jail Time for Those without Health Care Insurance?

He does not say that. Still, the means testing for this is going to be a hoot.

He never said anything about people going to jail.

By the way, in almost every single state you can get jail time for not carrying auto insurance. Not saying it's right but it is nearly the same thing.

I don't even understand the French health-care thing. The article title says 30,000 uninsured. Then inside the article it says 300,000. It doesn't really explain how there are 300,000 uninsured, and I have never read anything about a crisis in healthcare in France.

The problem with rising costs when it comes to government health care is that, the government has a much harder time raising funds when there is a recession. In a recession the government receives less revenue from taxes, but their budget is based on projections of revenues. They can't exactly raise taxes(to raise revenues) as it is necessary to cover costs, whereas a private insurer can raise rates as they see fit.

What all countries should have is some form of rainy-day trust fund, that can only be dipped into when necessary. But instead when we have a budget surplus we cut taxes to "give the people back their money". And when we have a budget shortfall(recession), people want to cut taxes again to "stimulate the economy".

There is a big difference. Driving a car is a choice and a privilege. If you choose to drive and are granted the privilege, then you must comply with the rules of driving.

Healthcare is quite different. If you're alive, then you would be subject to this.

If auto insurance is to be the standard or the justification, then why complain about health insurance companies' stances on preexisting conditions? Do you think you could have an accident in your car and then call an insurance company and have them cover it?

Isn't that sweet sitting in prison/jail next to a person who raped some one or murdered another person...and being asked "why are you in here?"...and answering "I don't have health care!!!!"

You won't get throw in jail for not buying car insurance. You will get thrown in jail for not buying car insurance AND driving a car, something many Americans do not have to do.
