There's nothing wrong with socialism if you are happy living in such countries that give you a high standard of living and security net (free college tuition, free health care, 5 weeks of paid vacation, and guaranteed senior pension) with a high-tax price tag.
I don't see people from Scandinavia and Western Europe trying to immigrate to the US in droves. So they are content.
Folks, the following items are based on socialism:
Highways.
Public schools.
Police.
Fire.
Public hospitals.
Medicare.
Armed forces.
Rail.
FDA.
Now, would you like to remove socialism from all of that and privatize everything?
I am sure that you don't really understand what socialism is. Let me try to help your thinking.
Highways have been paid for with tax money, one way or another, because the Constitution says the government should do what it can to promote trade among the states. Highways were necessary from the beginning and that is not socialism..
Police is not an example of socialism since governments are supposed to protect the people from each other. Not at all socialism. Fire departments are the same as police are.
Public hospitals are the same as fire and police with the safety of the people.
Medicare. You finally came close but do you know that we SS people have about $140 deducted from our SS checks to pay into Medicare. It is not as much socialism as you socialists like to think.
Armed forces. Who protects the nation from outsiders with an armed force? Again, it is not an example of socialism.
Rail. Where would we be without the government taking over the railroads? Have you ever looked at the number of trailers on rail cars? Does it not appear that one train can haul many of those things when you want it done over the socialized highways (your words not mine) and those roads would go down even faster than they do now.
FDA Where did you find that as an example of socialism? Down at the local socialist society meeting hall?

The question is, are WE content here?
Nope.
If the immigration process wasn't so daunting, I'd gladly move to one of those countries.
France seems nice along with Sweden. Germany isn't bad. I wouldn't mind seeing a bunch of goths and having a nice public transportation system in Berlin.
As i said.... McCarthy would be so proud of some on here.
How old are you? I don't think you were around in the 1950s when McCarthy was so popular. I was 18 in 1950 and I was a liberal Democrat all through the 50s so I was taken in by the liberals where McCarthy was concerned. Finally, I made the switch when the Dems nominated an admitted socialist for the Presidency, George McGovern.
I now know that people who have studied the McCarthy era now think that if he had been successful we would be better off.
I can guarantee you that in those early years of the Cold War there was plenty of reason to be afraid of Communism. Those didn't live through those years really don't know much about the period or the threat of Communism coupled with the threat of the atom bomb.

Question... How do you know those in Western Europe and Scandinavia are conent? You mention they aren't immigrating to the US... so that must be the case? Neither are Russians, Japanese, Chinese (Communistic states)... Just curious... Because in Norway a regular hamburger will cost you over $30, a sweater over $200... they don't live in McMansions, Drive HUGE SUVs nor send their children to private institutions to be taught how to grow up... Maybe its not the political system but the family structure and their lack of greed that makes them content.
In the US.. its ALL about the money... the bigger house, the bigger car, the name brands... people in the US don't care about their fellow human beings (ie... the gang rape that everyone watched for hours.....).. (ie the amount of people that we drive by that are homeless everyday and yet complain because our govt isn't doing anything about it)..
What about the job aspect... is it because of the greed (theres that word again) that employers want to hire illegals at a LOWER cost of money (those same illegals that stole someones identity) or how about our high tech jobs that go to H1 Visas from India instead of the college graduate supporting a family?
People always go back to the healthcare and school systems... what people don't understand is that European healthcare IS rationed, they have panels that REFUSE to give treatment based on "life expectancy" they REFUSE to give treatment that costs more money.. (please look up information and news articles in regards to this..sorry I don't have sources but will provide if absolutely necessary). Their education is SUPERIOR because the US is SO worried about hurting someones feelings and trying to be PC we don't care about how intelligent our children are - we care about if they FEEL GOOD! (GIMME GIMME, MINE MINE MINE)
It was a Democratic congress that voted to give tax payer money to the fat cats.
Bush was a Democrat????????????
