In Britain, No Lines for H1N1 Vaccine - CBS Evening News - CBS News

Quote:
"In the United States … it's about survival of the fittest, survival of those with money over those perhaps who don't have money," he said. "Here, it's much better. I think the system here is equal for people."
The article also says for every one vaccine we have here, they have four in the U.K.

An 80-year old lady said that the local health department turned her away, stating that the H1N1 was going to children and child-bearing women only!

(That's government-run health care for ya!)

Of course no lines..that vaccine is being given out by "invitation only".
Try that here and you'd have riots.

I saw that as well, requesting and then scheduling appointments for people based on a priority system is a hell of a lot different from the made rush for the vaccine here in the US.

This statement from the article also peaked my interest:

..Plus, more concentrated vaccines means higher price, and more profits for the companies making them in the US.

Doesn't matter what type of insurance either country has..the US ordered a different type of vaccine than Britain.

That is how it is already done here, actually.

Priority populations - young children, pregnant women, people with underlying health conditions - are allowed to attend H1N1 vaccination clinics. Others will be turned away until more is available.

I don't know if it is being done that way all over the country, but that's how my county is doing it. As well they should be.

Because, f you're NOT one of those populations, you shouldn't give a crap anyway.

Hey, I'm IN that population that could be getting the vaccine - I have asthma. But I already had swine flu, and at the SAME TIME I had bacterial bronchitis, and guess what? I'M ALIIIIIVE!

If I had it to do again, I STILL wouldn't have gotten the vaccine.

America needs to SACK UP and quit being selfish and afraid of a few sniffles.

You missed my ENTIRE point.

And anyway, invitations vs. priority lists, same idea.
