Obviously you didn't watch the clip. The doctor said it would be more expensive if they waited longer, and potentially more deadly (just like any other profession, ask 10 doctors and you may get a few different opinions.) Furthermore the discussion is about a recommendation, not a requirement. Nobody is forcing you to opt out of an annual cancer pre-screening, they are simply a study group who is recommending that it isn't as necessary as often as once thought. It's no surprise that Fox news took this little bit and twisted it into another scare tactic for others to lie about. You guys should really get a grip, and quit lying so much. It's truly shameful.

You have to realize what you are dealing with. These people have made up their minds and aren't interested in truth. They made up their minds probably before Obama was elected President they wouldn't support anything he stood for. It included the Fiscal Stimulus. It now includes healthcare reform. Its the same crowd that judges Obama a "failure" after less than 10 months in office. It wouldn't even surprise me if some conservative groups hire "shills" to come on here and blast Obama about anything and everything. Its an effort to form public opinion. It wouldn't even surprise me if some of the naysayers work for private health insurance companies.

The reason we hear BS about "death panels" isn't because these people believe this is happening. Its simply a bottom-of-the-barrel scare tactic to try and con people out of supporting a plan that approaches universal health care. There are plenty of legitimate reasons to question the Obama healthcare proposals. Most of those reasons though relate to cost and quality of care. The arguments that aren't worthy of much attention are those that pertain to "socialism" or "getting government involved in healthcare" (its already there and been there for over 40 years).

People who deal in misinformation have an advantage over people rebutting that misinformation and providing actual facts. That advantage is that its alot easier and quicker to invent BS rather than make a cogent, factual argument.

Its sad the lies that these people are willing to make up. Pathetic really.

All these groups can do is make recommendations. The American Cancer Society makes recommendations.

However, the government can run w/ these recommendations and make rules if they take over health care.

I think this news was put out there on purpose. On the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force website, they grade this recommendation at "C" level - which is they recommend against routinely providing the service. There may be considerations that support providing the service in an individual patient. There is at least moderate certainty that the net benefit is small.

They suggest offering or providing this service only if other considerations support the offering or providing the service in an individual patient.

So they are basically making a public statement. But why? They know what type of reaction this will get in the backdrop of the health care legislative takeover.

I don't know what to think of this yet.

Here is their background regarding their decision.

Screening for Breast Cancer

Good post!
You also have to keep in mind that it is pretty well established that Republicans believe their opinions are the ONLY valid ones. It is also required of members of the GOP to follow the official talking points (supplied to them by the Heritage Foundation) and express only those opinions the Party has established. Evidence, House votes on most everything put forth by Democrats. Any Republican not following the rule, will be, and have been, pushed out. In the Senate, 1 or 2 may go with Health care reform bill. When they do, they will be pushed out shortly. It really makes sense
that this be true. Since they represent such a small percentage of the population, they feel it essential to make sure all follow the doctrine if they want to have some political influence.

The Democrats, on the other hand, allow for divergent opions. Evidence, House votes on most everything put forth by Democrats. Any Democrat not following the rule, will be, and have been, acknowledged and accepted for their opinion. This also makes sense. Since they represent such a large percentage of the population, they feel it appropriate because the population has divergent opinions.

They're testing the waters no doubt. If we'll roll over and accept this, they can go ahead with the rest.
