I agree, but if the government started suggesting guidelines, then the conservative whaaambalance will pop out of the shadows and start complaining about the govt trying to raise America's kids again.

The thing is Americans are generous people. If there was a way that people could donate on-line to a reputable and honest organization that provided food to needy children in the United States, people would donate. I often find that there is a huge willingness to help people but scam artists have ruined that.
If someone knows of such an organization that does, provide it here. My advice is to find people in the community to help. I'm sure there are people you work with or know that need help. Do your part and offer any assistance you can. A lot of people especially the poor are proud and honest folk who don't want hand-outs even though they need help. Get past that and offer them help.
ok if majority are on Food stamps and 1 in 4 kids dont get fed, could that mean that parents are spending the cash on something else than food. if not a hostage situation a good imitation. whats huck talkin about, gee i dont know lets go ask em how much their cell phone and cable bill were this month.

Oh please, people control their own destiny, it is THEIR responsibility to be responsible and make something of their lives, not mine, not yours, not the governments, not anybody. The best thing government can do to improve people's lives is to stay out of it.
And the number of youngsters who sometimes were outright hungry rose from nearly 700,000 to almost 1.1 million.
This is something we, as a country, should be ashamed of!

Hmm....I partially agree with you.
I know plenty of people who were in poverty who worked hard, and didn't live lavishly and now they're doing great! BUT, having those social programs and food stamps did help out, even if for a short time. It helped them stay on their feet when things got really really tough.
I say the two sides, government and the people, should always work to meet somewhere in the middle.
Well the have-nots better become self resourceful and learn how to become the haves.
They will. When they grow up, they will have no motivation for providing for the elderly (who will become the have nots)!
