The influential power of the media is reaching controversial levels and very few aspects of life in America remain outside the pressure of these outlets. Violent programs, biased (left and right) twenty-four hour news networks, and impossible social standards promoted by advertising. Are we doomed to fail as a People because of the filtered reality of modern media?

Yep.
Time to kill the TV, say adios to the cable company, kiss off the internet and go back in time.
Live off the land and truly distinguish needs from wants.
Tune in, turn oun and drop out.

The funny thing is, most of the news networks I watch now are international: BBC, Russia Today, Al Jazeera English, and my native country's news. I guess that says something.

Well,

The media has always had a large part in driving this country. How do you think people in the 18th and 19th century got their information? Fact checking wasn't a internet click away back then. Media outlets have always backed certain candidates.

As far as violence on TV, do you have any idea how violent life was in those centuries? Children saw both parents die, daughters were married off in their early teens, Indians were a constant threat, disease was always an issue. Murder was much more prevelant in that society as well.

That was just normal to them.

I think Americans have a way of thinking fondly of the "good ole' days" a little to much. We do the opposite of what most people do, forgetting the bad of the past, and remembering only the good.

Kind of weird.

Not if we throw our TVs out the window.
