It's not about the President visiting our troops. They SHOULD do that. They SHOULD go over there and show respect.

It's about him opening his yap and stating that he's there to use them for a photo op. It's about the lack of respect that shows for our men and women.

Will there be pics of the President (any President) with our troops if they go over there? Yep. There are cameras on them 24/7. However, for a sitting President to go see our troops and tell them they make a good photo op is demeaning and shows NO appreciation for them. None.

Was it a bad joke? Maybe. Was it a Freudian slip? Possibly.

Regardless, it shows the lack of respect and the fact that he has no grasp on the gravity of the situation over there. We don't have a President that is in a war to win it, and he's causing our troops more damage by his lack of leadership abilities.

Perfectly stated. I would only add that the current president has never been in the military. He not only has no idea what the troops experience, he is the guy in charge of a group he has never even been a part of. That may be why he considers them a "photo op".

Default Darn it! That pesky reality intrudes again.

"Obama and his top military and diplomatic aides have been deliberating for months over how to proceed in Afghanistan, where the United States and its partners have sought for eight years to defeat the Taliban and deny al-Qaeda a safe haven from which it can plan and launch attacks.

"Gen. Stanley A. McChrystal, the top U.S. and NATO commander in Afghanistan, has stated that without the deployment of up to 40,000 additional troops within the next year, the mission 'will likely result in failure.' But some aides are arguing for a much smaller troop increase, and the U.S. ambassador in Kabul, Karl W. Eikenberry, has questioned whether the Afghan government can be a reliable partner."

Raging righties? Did I complain about Obama doing it?
I simply pointed out that whenever Bush did it those on the left had their pnties in a bunch. I find it amusing that both sides cry about the same things.

White House aides: No Afghan decision before Thanksgiving
Hey, he's gonna be accused of using them, might as well plant that tongue firmly in cheek and confront it head on.
Good for him.

And, did you notice - he received a ROUSING welcome.
