US Army Corps of Engineers Found Guilty for Katrina Disaster - A court has released this verdict - Softpedia

Quote:
It would appear that negligence on the part of experts in the US Army Corps of Engineers led to the flooding of New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina. The ruling belongs to a US judge, who came to the conclusion after analyzing pieces of evidence for and against, presented by six residents and a business on the one hand, and the engineers, on the other.

"Furthermore, the Corps not only knew, but admitted by 1988, that the MRGO (Mississippi Gulf-River Outlet) threatened human life... and yet it did not act in time to prevent the catastrophic disaster that ensued with the onslaught of Hurricane Katrina."

The failure of that one part of the levee system did flood a part of the city but the overflow of Lake Pontchartrain was the part that flooded the ninth ward where all the loud noises were about. This decision will cause much more trouble for the taxpayers of the US in that the Army Engineers are financed by the US government and I don't know how we pay for that and all the other programs, especially Obamacare. I wonder if the Chinese have enough money to pay for all that. We sure as hell don't.

I really don't know what to say about this ruling. As somebody who lives in hurricane territory I know when to seek shelter or flee!
Although I haven't lived below sea level common sense would tell me to leave if somebody told me your house could be underwater!
The government can only do so much to protect you.

The government knew there were more than 100,000 people in New Orleans who had access to no personal means by which to leave the city...

The fact that back in the 1960's The Army corp of engineers warned that this would happen doesn't seem to matter. Add to this the fact that federal money was received by NO to up grade and they decided to spend the money in other ways doesn't seem to matter.
Deep pockets and PC is all that seems to matter.
proof positive some judges are simply unfit to wear the robe.
