Not going to shoot you. On the surface what you suggest makes sense but the argument falls apart when you dig a bit deeper. Every time taxes raise, revenues drop. When taxes are lower, revenue increases. It would take pages to explain but to simplify, tax revenues work along the same rules as supply & demand and economy of scale.

Though I disagree with sin taxes, they do actually work to increase revenue as long as they're not painful. However, If the sin taxes become too high, they only serve to bolster the black market.
