There are conservatives AND liberals on both sides of your 'argument'. By your post, I should be a staunch conservative and guess what? I'm definitely NOT.
I know a few conservatives that fit right in with your liberal stereotype and lots of liberals that fit in with you conservative stereotype.

Each president before Reagan worked to pay down WWII debt.
Reagan inherited a 600B budget and less than 1000B of debt

Well not so fast. We were at the end of the flat part of an exponential debt curve and it was ether let it go vertical or have a depression. We have had 30 years of the debt curve going vertical go figure.

Well it was either do that or have a depression? We chose to have the roaring twenties all over again. But it was the roaring 80's, 90's, and 00's. Now the bill has come due. Do we pay now or see if we can pay more later?

I agree with you, but this is the game we play called politics. and more often then not, those stereotypes are dead on.
Mr. Liberal and Mr. Conservative both want to buy a car...
Mr. Conservative works full time 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, he saves and invests his money, so he is able to buy a car for himself and a car for Mrs. Conservative...
Mr. Liberal works 20 hours a week. Unlike Mr. Conservative, Mr. Liberal spends most of his take-home pay on extravagant things like a 60" TV, an IPhone, $200 sneakers... He also goes barhopping every night and drops a couple hundred dollars on mixed drinks, and spends another $12 a day on cigarettes. When Mr. Liberals needs a car, he goes over to Mr. Conservative's house, kicks the door off the hinges, traipses in and demands Mr. Conservative hand over the keys to one of his cars. When Mr. Conservative refuses, Mr. Liberal tells him he is greedy and selfish and doesn't need more than one car. Mr. Liberal goes home and calls his local state senator who happens to be a Democrat. Mr. Liberal, Mr. Senator, and several police officers show up at Mr. Conservative's House. Mr. Senator orders Mr. Conservative to hand his car over to Mr. Liberal or face stiff fines and imprisonment. Feeling he has no other choice, Mr. Conservative obliges.
Mr. Senator and Mr. Police man also order Mr. Conservative to pay for Mr. Liberal's health insurance because he wines the costs of health care are too much for him....

Mr. Conservative's persecution complex is spot on, though.
Mr. Smart Guy and Mr Stupid want to work. They both work as hard but Mr. Smart Guy makes 30X as much money as Mr. Stupid. But the taxes that Mr. Smart Guy pays are a lot higher. He “only” has 5X as much money to spend as Mr. stupid. Financially Mr. Smart Guy and Mr. Stupid live in the same world. Then Mr Smart Guy gets a big tax cut. He now has a lot more money to invest. So he looks around and says to Mr. Stupid hey I'll loan you the money so that you can live like I do. Mr. Stupid being stupid says OK. So Mr. Stupid borrows some money from Mr. Smart Guy he buys a house with the money. And guess what because everyone is doing the same thing at the same time the resale price of the house goes up. Now Mr Smart Guy has made the price of stuff go up so guess what he deserves a raise. Now he is making 100X as much an Mr. Stupid. But Mr Smart Guy wasn't so smart after all he decided to borrow some money himself and buy a new company so he could make 200X as much as Mr. Stupid. Now because he has debt he needs to cut costs. So he looks around and says Hmm. China I'll have my stuff made there and I wont have to pay Mr. Stupid WAY too much money to make stuff for me. So he out sources the work to china. Mr. Smart Guy wasn't so smart. Because now Mr. Stupid can't pay the mortgage and defaults on the loan. So Mr. Smart Guy looses his money that he lent to Mr. Stupid to buy his house with. Mr Stupid also doesn't have the money to buy the stuff that Mr, Smart guy was having made in China. So Mr. Smart Guy isn't making money. Now he says to Mr. Stupid Why Don't you go to school and become smart like I am so that you can make money to buy the Stuff that I'm having made in China because the production costs high are way to high (Because we have to much debt because Mr Smart guy got a big tax cut and “invested it” instead of spending it.).
This is the story of the economy for the last 30 years.
Mr Liberal and Mr Conservative continue to bicker as their country circles the drain.
