Los Angeles, California (CNN) -- Adam Lambert's sexually suggestive choreography -- including kissing another male -- on the American Music Awards stage Sunday night happened "in the moment," the singer told CNN.

Lambert, who is openly gay, said it is "a form of discrimination and a double standard" for anyone to object since "women performers have been pushing the envelope" for decades.

I had to open this thread to see who Lambert was and why the American Medical Association was involved in a kissing incident...I am so old.

Exactly why parents have to monitor television.
You expect that the whole family can watch a "music" presentation event as my family did when I was younger.

Too bad unfortunately I have to agree with dcslcd.

As a gay man, I have some agreements and disagreements on this issue.
Yes there are double standards.......but what makes him think that his actions are going to do anything to change it, or make it right?
IMO he gives straight people MORE of a reason to call us everything from perverts to f*gs and a few other choice words. There is no sense in performing on NATIONAL TV in that manner. The same also goes for straight performers as well.
Call me old fashion, but if I wanna see 2 men kissing, 2 women kissing, or even a man and a woman kissing or doing any other LUDE act, I'll watch porn.

Not gay, but I agree...

On American Idol it was pretty well-known that he was probably gay. The public saw it as no biggie. Lambert was well-mannered, polite, and didn't seem interested in flaunting his sexuality.

Even after Idol when the Rolling Stone interview came out he seemed very matter-of-fact about it and to me it was, again, no biggie.....

This act during the AMA just destroyed all of the thoughts of "live and let live" that I had with regard to him..... Is someone trying to suggest that Brittany and Madonna, Janet Jackson, etc... didn't meet the same scrutiny and public disapproval? That this is somehow just a bunch of "homophobes" that can't handle the thought of a gay person?

No, Adam crossed the line and as a person who dug his music on Idol and would have certainly been a fan of his, this throws all of that into question and I don't think I'm alone here...

If he wants to be "controversial" and go for "shock value" then that's his choice, but I have no interest in being a fan of any sort if that is his decision. He can be who he wants, and I can pay to buy the CDs of those I want to listen to and be a fan of..... Too bad really.

I think you speak for many who initially wanted this very talented performer to succeed. I have no issue with him being gay, but he is a lewd exhibitionist to say the least, some very cheap and filthy stunts this guy has pulled. I agree, really too bad.
