If Afghanistan were free from Al Qaeda presence or influence, then I think we could leave afghanistan to the afghanis no matter who is in charge. But, "The ally of my enemy is my enemy and shall receive the same punishment for transgressing against me."
Today the Al qaeda fighter are numbered less than 300 in Afghanistan-Pakistan so today if the U.S. and Nato forces foucused on Al qaeda alone and stopped wasting their time on the Taleban they would eliminate Al qaeda easily.

Not so much. The Viet Cong threw their guns into the rice paddies before dawn and spent the daylight hours farming and other civilian activities. At night they would fish the guns out of the rice paddies and go back to work killing us. We anihilated the VC during Tet as an effective fighting force. After that it was N. Vietnamese regulars.

Exactly, it basically goes like this, today lets say for an example the Obama's administration developed a good relationship with a certain group and they welcomed them in the U.S., eventually lets say this group decided during their stay to attack a certain country and they do and kill a lot of people, the country that got attacked, would invade the U.S. and instead of focusing on that group, instead the country would start badmouthing the Obama's administration and would replace a new governement which is 10 times worse, eventually things from each side would get worse and no one would succeed.

You can blame that on Bin-laden and Al-qaeda because they brought misery to the Afghans.

I too, believe this to be the best course of action, as do 55% of the American people.

Thats the problem, Pakistan dosent want to get involved with Al qaeda because Pakistan would get even more destabilized with more people dying. Becuase if you think about it right now, they still have a war against the Pakistani Taleban in wazirstan, they also just defeated the Pakistani taliban in swat valley, the U.S. also used to bomb a lot in northen Pakistan but it was unsuccessful which resulted in heavy casulties, Plus Obama would send even more troops which could destebalize Pakistan in a lot of ways. I think Pakistan would go after Al qaeda when things get back in its place.

mrhman92, you give us a different perspective on the current morass America is involved in over there. Obviously you speak from first hand knowledge of the area and it's politics. A different point of view is always valuable in any debate. Since you know there are only 300 Al Qaeda in Afghanistan, I wish you would tell us where they are so we could turn them into grease spots.
