How about telling this to Harry Reid on this scamcare bill?

Another liberal state doing the right thing.

The end of liberal ideals is going down to tube and quickly.

How funny. You just made that up. You find it hypocritical, even though no one said anything like that. Interesting.

The voters didn't decide this.

NY has more pressing needs: a huge deficit that continues to grow, and a bad relationship between the Governor and the Legislature (including his fellow Democrats)

Passing anything before fixing the budget problems would be political suicide for these politicains.

That's always the excuse. "There are more pressing needs." It's pretty silly, in my opinion. It took just as much time to vote against same-sex marriage as it would have taken to vote for it.

Anyone who says that there are more pressing needs has an obvious lack of empathy. It's easy to brush this off as a non-issue when it doesn't affect you personally.

In fact, to use the budget problems as a reason to vote against same-sex marriage is just plain stupid. There have been numerous studies that show legalizing same-sex marriage INCREASES revenue for a state. Here's one - written by a Republican strategist while same-sex marriage was still legal in California:

So, please explain how legalizing same-sex marriage before fixing the budget problems is political suicide.

Really? How's that porn industry working out for you? Pretty profitable I would imagine, hey?

In this environment, people are going to want economic things taken care of first, its a matter of survival. NY is pretty close to running out of money, they just announced they are withholding $400 million in due payments to hospitals and schools.

For most people, gay marriage just isn't that high on their list of priorities.

Please address my point that it took just as much time to vote no as it would have to vote yes, and my other point that same-sex marriage actually increases revenue for states. How would voting yes have detracted from fixing the economy?

The point isn't how long it would take to vote yes or no.

The point is the perception of the voting public that the politicians were distracted from the most pressing issue, financial solvency of the state that effects every resident, by passing a law that would affect only a small percentage of the population.

Sort of like the politicians fiddled while Albany burned type scenario.

It's OK if it's NY & CA cause they are so much more advanced and educated.
The California legislature voted twice for gay marriage [the first state to do so] but the governor veto'd it both times. Schwarzenegger wanted the court to handle the issue and when state supreme court approved gay marriage he expressed agreement. But then the Mormons and hateful christians raised hell and narrowly overturned gay marriage in a state-wide election. It will finally be legal to marry who you want in California; probably next year when it comes up for a vote again. California and Maine are the only states to allow the citizens to vote for or against gay marriage.

New York state is puzzling. The state is nothing like NYC and conservatives have more power than in other states like California. It will pass eventually and people will forget all the crazy fuss over nothing.
