The principal and a teacher at Goleta Valley Junior High School in Santa Barbara County, California are apologizing to parents for not following school district policy relating to a pro-homosexual workshop given to 8th grade students in a leadership class at the school.
The controversial workshop was presented by “Just Communities Central Coast” in three, 45-minute sessions over three days. It included handouts defining homosexual terminology, including ***** and transgender, and listed “heterosexism” as “oppression that ‘pushes down’ people who are LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, transgender and questioning) and ‘pushes up’ people who are straight.”

I don't see anything wrong with educating students about who/what gays and lesbian are at 8th grade.
At a younger age, I can see it but not in 8th grade.
If they feel it pushes up on straights, look into and edit the program. But it is important to let our kids know about different people. Picking on gay people is not funny nor should be tolerated.
I recently had a friend tell me that there was a going to be a discussion about gays and HIV in her children's 4th grade class. She demanded an opt out form. The scholl told her she would have to go to the district office. She looked up the address on the internet where the wrong address was listed. She went back home, called got the correct address. When she got there it got VERY heated because they did not want her to opt out. They intentionally made it very difficult for a parent to opt out! These nasty people with their gay agenda towards very small children are beyond the pale.
She is finally convince she must home school her children to get them out of the hands of these predators. 4th grade and HIV! Really! Parents need to review all schools policies and what they plan on exposing their children to.

The class was to be delivered by the usual gay organizations.
I see. Thank you for the clarification.
In that case, I can certainly understand your friends position. I am 100 percent pro gay marriage and rights but even I think 4th grade is a bit too young.
Your friend could have kept her child home from school. What did she end up doing?

It is important that all students understand what homosexuality is and that it is nothing to fear. The schools often have to re-educate students from what their bigoted parents and kin folks tell them about "**** are child molesters and spread AIDS" at home. And the 8th grade is about right to begin to deprogram the kids from their bigot parents and preachers. With the FACTS they can stand up and challenge both parents and preachers.
