That's all I gotta say to the OP and most of the posts afterwards. The only one with any rational sense is the analysis of current economic events.

Russia won't try to reassemble the curtain because they haven't totally recovered from the fall of the USSR. Further they always looked down upon the other nationalities that constituted the other states, and now they're more concerned over native Russian peoples. That's the only reason they invaded Georgia, to protect ethnic Russian people from oppression. So any faint hint that they are willing to reassemble the curtain is sheer folly.

They'd much rather make threats to cut off the natural gas and oil pipelines and get their way rather than make war. Much more profitable. Why waste the soldiers and the equipment?

Again, I repeat what a lot of Russian friends of mine say,

"You so-called 'conservatives' here have no f*cking clue, just shut up, you have no idea what true communism and socialism are."

War games typically serve two purposes: training of troops and posturing for the international community. Russia is flexing its muscles, so to speak. The notion that they are actually going to implement the scenario of the wargames shows a profound misunderstanding of international relations and also completely ignores the fact that if Russia were actually planning to invade Poland not only would we see a massive mobilization (long before the invasion) and the last thing they would do would be to hold wargames regarding Poland. You don't do wargames that actually show how you would go about doing something you are intending to do.
So I guess the wargames Israel held over the Mediterranean last spring where they were practicing flying the distance to Iran and back were purely for posturing and the Israelis have absolutely no intentions of actually hitting Iran's nuclear reactors?

Any thoughts on Israel's wargames put on "to posture"?

Odd. I mention Israeli war games and the discussion suddenly freezes. Why is that?

Stop creeping on the thread!

Do you really think all war games are used for the same purpose? They are used for strategic and tactical training, it doesn't matter if an attack is imminent or not. A military by definition must be prepared for a vast array of possibilities. While Israel is very likely to be involved in a major war soon, Russia is not.

America probably conducts war games imagining invasions of Canadian Mounties and Mexican air strikes on Texas!

All I'm saying is that military exercises with a country you are trying to make peace with is just plain nuts, where every nuance is parsed a thousand different negative ways by international media. Nothing good can come from these war games, no matter how armchair geopoliticians slice and dice the scenario.

Maybe because it's OT of your own OP?

IMO it's more likely Israel will try to suck the US into doing its dirty work rather than taking care of themselves.

Good military leadership is more concerned with being prepared above all else rather than nuances they give off to the media...that is, unless a country is planning a sneak attack.
