The Obama administration is warning Congress that if it doesn't move to regulate greenhouse gases, the Environmental Protection Agency will take a "command-and-control" role over the process in a way that could hurt business.

Looks like Obama is becoming more and more like Bush.

hey joe -

Did you read the article you posted? It says that the Obama administration will use the EPA to regulate greenhouse gas emissions, if congress doesn't go ahead and do something.

Do you know what a command economy is? It is when a government (like the Soviets) decide how much of everything should be produced - tanks, televisions, paper clips, cranberries...

how do you make the leap from "command and control regulation over emissions" to your title "Obama to impose a command economy.." ?

Yes, a command economy uses top down integration, like the Soviet Union, while Capitalist use vertical integration. Basically this means economic decisions are made by a few policy makers and then implemented.

Bush had the opposite approach on environmental regulation. His approach was: we don't need any.

horizontal vs. vertical integration are two forms of capitalism, and have nothing to do with a command economy vs. a market economy.

And top-down integration is a form of software quality control, having nothing to do with government or economics.

Isn't that what we're seeing now? A handful of Obama's shady associates are making policy and are determined to push it through while we're looking at whatever is touted as the current crisis.

Default Sounds like a threat, or arm-twisting at the very least

"If you don't pass this legislation, then ... the EPA is going to have to regulate in this area, and it is not going to be able to regulate on a market-based way, so it's going to have to regulate in a command-and-control way, which will probably generate even more uncertainty."

Another "crisis" in the making?

There is no doubt Joe. Here is an excerpt from his "Peace" prize acceptance speech:

"There will be times when nations - acting individually or in concert - will find the use of force not only necessary but morally justified," Obama said at the Nobel ceremony in Oslo, Norway.
"A non-violent movement could not have halted Hitler's armies," he said in a somber tone. "Negotiations cannot convince al Qaeda's leaders to lay down their arms."
