Aren't we talking about the National Foundation of the Arts who got $25,000 for puppet theaters for children? That's not a major amount of money to get your panties in a bunch over. I'll bet even children of neo-cons enjoy and attend stuff like that. It did create jobs in the arts, by the way.

Yes it is because that $25,000 here, just another $100K over there and another $50k over here adds up to billions of dollars because every level of government does it.

It's a waste, give me $25K and the $25K from some other wasteful program and I'll build a park that they can go to the next 20 or 30 years.

How will that park stimulate the economy? Will people be spending money at the park?

You couldn't buy land for a park, much less build a park for $25,000, not to mention maintaining it afterward. The puppet theaters were built and staffed within existing dwellings like public museums, etc. and they could potentially go on for many years as well.

Supplying both jobs and place for people to spend money.

Default Stimulus did little other than to grow gov't outreach

The Stimulus is a joke and a failure. The private sector, ie middle class, has seen little benefit. Very little infrastructure is being built. It has created little demand in manufacturing. The only people getting stimulus funds are gov't related entities; the stimulus is only stimulating existing gov't programs and their outreach.

If you are a social service, 501c, a school/university, a gov't supported lab, a state, or an agency which works with one of the above, there's lot's of money available for you; otherwise the stimulus is not reaching or having an affect on you.

The stimulus in effect has grown gov't, it's a huge piggybank for gov't outreach and gov't programs. Had I known this was intent, I would have never given it a chance.

Here is a breakdown. Make your own conclusions. Source data here.

A park requires construction workers, material, tools etc. It also provides a long lasting benefit. Lets put it another way, would you rather have bridge or nice artsy picture of bridge? Which is going to be the most beneficial?

Mossomo: I understand your concern but the stimulus was set up so that non-profits and government agencies would be in the first wave to get stimulus money because they'd take less vetting than private sector projects. The next wave of stimulus money hasn't been spent yet and will target a different sector. The jobs in manufacturing are suppose to kick in in January. We shall all see if that happens as projected, or not. It's a little too early to label the stimulus a failure.
