I know this came out a few weeks ago but it is truly disturbing. The church and police worked together to keep physical and sexual abuse of children under wraps.
" The report details the cases of 46 priests guilty of abuse as a representative sample of 102 priests within its remit. But it concludes that there was no evidence of an organised paedophile ring in the Dublin archdiocese, although it says there were worrying connections. One priest admitted abusing more than 100 children. Another said he had committed abuse every two weeks for more than 25 years."
This is not the first time and it goes all the to the top. I find it disgraceful and think anyone involved should be imprisoned as they are a threat to children.
The Catholic Church has damaged the world-view of Christianity more than anything else that I can think of. I can see why non-Christians view Christianity and religion as a whole as one big farce when there are men of God molesting children at near-epidemic levels.
I say this as an embarrassed (non-Catholic) Christian.
As a churchman you can be forgiven many things. Pedophilia is not one of them. All involved should face criminal charges and the associated churches pay reparations to the victims. They have big enough bank accounts.
I can barely imagine the feelings of betrayal these people must have.
And then of course, they'll file bankruptcy right on the heels of this so as not to have to pay out compensation to the families.
Typical hypocritical Catholic BS.
Cue up the Catholic apologists....1...2...3
I am a Baptist, once married to a cradle Roman Catholic, and now married to a lady who left "THE" church.
There are many denominations which profess to be a part of "the church" rather than a church. As a Baptist, for all our faults, we realize that "The Church" is not a worldly thing, but rather a Heavenly destination which no human can claim without God's approval. I believe that there are 100's of thousands of congregations made up of people who gather to worship God in like manner. There are even 100's of thousands of Catholics who toss out the Catholic religion and worship God through their Catholic faith.
The heirachy of the Catholic Church is the perfect set-up for power abuse, and so much more.

Except they file for bankruptcy when the caca hits aerator so they don't have to pay.
IIRC bankruptcy rules are different in Ireland. The church, as an business, may not be eligible as the bankruptcy is a result of a violation of criminal law.
IIRC even in this country an individual or a business cannot claim bankruptcy because of fraudulent activity. I think the criminals retain full financial responsibility. Or at least I hope they do.
Just remember, Catholic Church does not equal Christians. The actions of a few should not tarnish your feelings towards those of us that understand what is required of us by our families, our society, and most importantly by God.
