From the Associated Press, an article that debunks the latest crazed right-wing conspiracy theory:
E-mails stolen from climate scientists show they stonewalled skeptics and discussed hiding data — but the messages don't support claims that the science of global warming was faked, according to an exhaustive review by The Associated Press.
The 1,073 e-mails examined by the AP show that scientists harbored private doubts, however slight and fleeting, even as they told the world they were certain about climate change. However, the exchanges don't undercut the vast body of evidence showing the world is warming because of man-made greenhouse gas emissions.
And,
In the past three weeks since the e-mails were posted, longtime opponents of mainstream climate science have repeatedly quoted excerpts of about a dozen e-mails. Republican congressmen and former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin have called for either independent investigations, a delay in U.S. Environmental Protection Agency regulation of greenhouse gases or outright boycotts of the Copenhagen international climate talks. They cited a "culture of corruption" that the e-mails appeared to show.
That is not what the AP found. There were signs of trying to present the data as convincingly as possible.
There was nothing in the emails that doesn't happen in any academic field every day.
Quote:
Folks, welcome to academia. Seriously. This has always happened and happens today in every field with a peer-review process. Academics are elitist, catty little *******. Find me a field – I beg you, any field – where this scenario does not play out. Smith doesn't like Wong's work (no doubt over some petty, irrelevant methodological issue) so Smith calls Davis and Martinez and all three collude to reject Wong's paper from the conference, journal, seminar, or whatever. Being able to identify the petty *******s, narcissists, and would-be gatekeepers is half of being a successful academic…and dealing with their neuroses is the other. Whoever MM is, he/she has challenged the consensus in the field and his/her colleagues, all of whom are ready to defend their decades of published work to the death. Not exactly man bites dog in terms of newsworthiness. (source)
There really is nothing here. And wingnuts continue to make themselves look stupid.
A Stanford Professor has used United Nation security officers to silence a journalist asking him “inconvenient questions” during a press briefing at the climate change conference in Copenhagen.
Science HAS been faked which is why these Global Warming or is it Global Climate cons will not answer direct questions just like El Gordo. What pray tell are they hiding? Since the true belivers have grasped onto this con game like a religion, EL Gordo will still have his sheep licking his feet.
Yeah, if they were so sure about their conclusions, why do they always run and hide from probing questions? Why will they not debate the issue? Why do they engage in censoring those who want them to prove their conclusions?
The scientists were so convinced by their own science and so driven by a cause "that unless you're with them, you're against them," said Mark Frankel, director of scientific freedom, responsibility and law at the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He also reviewed the communications.
Frankel saw "no evidence of falsification or fabrication of data, although concerns could be raised about some instances of very 'generous interpretations.'"
"This is normal science politics, but on the extreme end, though still within bounds," said Dan Sarewitz, a science policy professor at Arizona State University. "We talk about science as this pure ideal and the scientific method as if it is something out of a cookbook, but research is a social and human activity full of all the failings of society and humans, and this reality gets totally magnified by the high political stakes here."
Gerald North, a climate scientist at Texas A&M University, headed a National Academy of Sciences study that looked at — and upheld as valid — Mann's earlier studies that found the 1990s were the hottest years in centuries.
Honestly, a world-wide conspiracy of scientists? Really? But polluting industries with billions of dollars to spend on PR and lobbying - that's outragous. Couldn't happen.
Damage control..damage control..man keyboards...start childish name calling
What wonderful, totally empty posts by the enviro crowd.
It's the usual, name calling without any facts of substance.
When you think of this issue, think of Al Gore and his little shack in the forest...You know, the house that uses more energy than 5 or 6 homes of families that the enviro crowd would call deniers.
Face the facts - The people that are "saving the earth" are mostly about "making a buck" while doing it...To the point that their cash-cow has to be protected at all costs...Even the truth.
They got exposed for what they are...Phonies.
In spite of the labeling, almost all people recognize that changes should be made...Just not the radical changes, in radical time, at radical costs.
And the "normal" among us realize that the environment has been changing since the beginning of time here on earth, and will continue to change no matter what we do. Much of it is natural occurrence - the continuous changing of our planet earth.
My, my...how fragile and insecure are some of the responses here (like always when someones beliefs are so extreme and so insecure about them).
