Parker leads in Houston - Ben Smith - POLITICO.com

She leads by an "unbeatable 5%" with 90% of the votes counted. It is a proud day to be a Houstonian.

Between Minnesota, Iowa, and now Texas leading the charge, with California shooting down advancements for gay rights, I think the progressive front of society is shifting to the middle of the country.

I can only imagine how uptight some of the rednecks in Houston are right now.

They had to choose from a black man and a white lesbian. I wonder how many of them were angry about that.

Interesting from the NY Times:

But the ugliest attacks came from a group of black pastors who spoke out against Ms. Parker for what they called her gay agenda and two separate anti-gay advocates who send out fliers in the mail calling attention to her support from gay groups and to her relationship with her longtime partner. (They have been together 19 years and have two adopted children.)

In a sense, the race resembled the political fight in California against gay marriage. There, an alliance sprang up between black voters and white conservatives who feel little sympathy for gay rights movement.

Collectively, the African American community is socially conservative, so that does not surprise. Their history and culture has always been entwined with the black Christian church, which, of course, is indicative of gay disapproval.

Interesting that they only point out the black pastors that did,
once again (just like in California) creating a fake war between blacks and homosexuals.

Are you going to tell me that there were no white pastors saying the same things as them?

The difference is that blacks are 1) A minority (like gays and lesbians), and 2) overwhelming disapprove of gays and lesbians, moreso than their white counterparts.
