I understand what you are saying, but I for one have no problem at all singling out federal employees. I go through GREAT lengths to make sure my federal taxes = zero... The least they can do is pay their own taxes if they think we should be subject to their rules and regulations..
They are the government's rules and regulations, and not the rules and regulations of federal employees. You know there's a difference, right?
I, too, am extremely careful when preparing my tax returns to make sure I pay what I owe, or - rarely - get back what I should get back. And as a tax payer, I am far more upset with a $300 billion figure than I am with a $3 billion figure, although both are upsetting.
Must be that new dictionary to go along with that new accounting methods from Democrats..
Voluntary:
1. done, made, brought about, undertaken, etc., of one's own accord or by free choice: a voluntary contribution.
2.of, pertaining to, or acting in accord with the will: voluntary cooperation.
3.of, pertaining to, or depending on voluntary action: voluntary hospitals.
4.Law. a.acting or done without compulsion or obligation.b.done by intention, and not by accident: voluntary manslaughter. c.made without valuable consideration: a voluntary settlement.
5.Physiology. subject to or controlled by the will.6.having the power of willing or choosing: a voluntary agent. 7.proceeding from a natural impulse; spontaneous: voluntary laughter.
Ahh nope... Not voluntary, but I'm not surprised that you jumped in trying to defend government again..

The Law: The word "voluntary," as used in Flora [v. United States] and in IRS publications, refers to our system of allowing taxpayers to determine the correct amount of tax and complete the appropriate returns, rather than have the government determine tax for them.
I don't know how many times it has to be said before it sinks in, but we have a voluntary tax system in this country. Taxpayers themselves sit down and figure out how much tax they owe. Every year, tens of thousands of them figure it out wrong and many of those mistakes mean the IRS has to go after people for back taxes. This sort of thing is a normal part of doing business.
So TurboTax Tim isn't a criminal? He's just in charge of the Treasury, but too stupid to figure out how to use a computer tax program? Comforting.
But then there's that pesky double standard. Most people pay their back taxes AND penalties. Tim got a pass on the penalty part.

It's a miracle. You finally post something that I agree with.

Federal workers owe more than $3 billion in income taxes they failed to pay in 2008. According to Internal Revenue Service documents, 276,300 federal employees and retirees owe $3,042,200,000.
...
Retired military personnel make up about 33 percent of the money owed with $1,343,538,055 in unpaid taxes for 2008.
Other notable agencies on the list:
* Executive Office of the President (includes the White House): 50 employees owe $812,917;
* U.S. Senate: 231 employees owe $2,469,026;
* U.S. House of Representatives: 447 employees owe $5,809,631;
* U.S. Tax Court: 3 employees owe $39,752;
* Active Duty Military: 27,111 employees $102,474,672.
This doesn't include gov't workers (Rangel?) that take advantage of the designed loopholes in the system.
