Wow, the decline in our country's moral values exemplified.

Why? Christianity does not equal moral values. You can have moral values without being religious.

What does how one does or does not celebrate a holiday got to do with "morals" or "moral values"?

And, looking at some who claim religion, you can be very 'religious' and still have no moral standards at all!

My family is very polarized and divided concerning religion. My father has 5 masters degrees and his P.H.D. in philosophy, and is a nationally recognized author. Christmas has become a time for all of us to put aside our disagreements and come together as a family to recognize the things we have in common. It is a time to appreciate family ties and bonds. Religion does not play a role in my families' celebration as it could be a cause for divide. There are some things that are more important.

Christmas IS a religious holiday. Many will attempt to say that it is not but it IS. If it were not for Christians celebrating the birth of Christ there would be no Christmas for non-believers to celebrate. It is very insulting when people attempt to change what Christmas is about. Like it our not without Christ you have NO Christmas.

I celebrate Christmas as a secular holiday with deep roots in ancient and diverse cultures, but I respect and revere my Christian friends who prefer to see it as a reason to celebrate the holiday as an affirmation of their faith. As is the case with my gay friends, their ways do me no harm, and may conceivably do us all good, by offering us an opportunity to demonstrate our tolerance for others.

To me, that's the reason for the season: peace and good will toward all people.

Like it or not, without centuries of myriad preceding religions, you have no Christ myth or Christians.
