Detroit's problems have to do with the loss of US manufacturing.
If you look at Red States....they have less income, more divorce, higher teenage pregnacy rates, lower scholastic test scores, higher rates of uninsured.
Actually they couldn't compete because their cars still use 60 year old technology.
The unions didn't threaten them not to hire good engineers and designers bud, that's all on them.
When you try and sell a product, and it turns out your product doesn't stand up to that of the opposition, you won't be able to sell it, and that was the real reason they failed.
Hell, they even brought Saab with them in the fall.
They ruined my favorite car, SAAB.
They made classless cars for their classless society.
You blamed Detroit's unemployment rate on the auto industry. Many communities don't have an auto industry and miraculously have an unemployment rate below 29 percent, even with me driving a Japanese and a Swedish car.

It is a fact, if you read about Detroit's economy.
The big three employees... then their advertisers, health care providers and all of the other companies that are dependent upon the car employees income for their support.
The Big Three Automakers have been struggling since the 80's... and that is not the fault of the liberals, the government or the even the corrupt unions.
The industry didn't just "move out"... they got chased out by the unions... they couldn't compete because of the unions... what did you think they were going to do? Oh, that's right... bailout... from the government...
Actually as someone who grew up in the metro detroit area, the unions brought prosperity to the area. It died because of inept, greedy management shipping jobs overseas and stagnation in product development. Thats all management not unions. As usual evilnewbie, you need to wake up and face reality.

Detroit... Motor City... hmm....
Certainly shows a lack of vision. I don't think many people over the last 30 years viewed US auto makers as a success story. What were the city fathers doing to attract a little diversity in industry. Many other cities have seen their main industries die and they adapt, Detroit folded due to poor leadership. All Democrats.
