Senate Democrats have been making wholesale changes to the Senate Health Care bill in an attempt to get the votes of the last few liberal Democrat holdouts. On the longest, darkest night of the year, they apparently threw out the entire bill, and replaced it with something called the "Managers' Amendment", which has been cobbled together over the last several days. Though few people have even seen this new plan for taking over 1/6 of the nation's economy and radically changing the country's Health Care industry, a vote is now scheduled for Christmas eve.

Many are wondering what's in it, and why so much secrecy and stealth is necessary for a bill that will have so much impact, fundamentally altering the nation's health care and the way the government will run it.

Those in the know in the Senate (that is, three people) seem to feel it is vital that Senators vote on, and pass, this bill BEFORE they go home to face their constituents over the Christmas break. Apparently they fear that, once the Senators hear what their constituents have to say about this bizarre and secret process for imposing radical change on the country, some of the 60 votes in favor of it, will evaporate. Senate leaders are determined to prevent that, at all costs.

Change Nobody Believes In

A bill so reckless that it has to be rammed through on a partisan vote on Christmas eve

DECEMBER 21, 2009, 5:13 P.M. ET.

And tidings of comfort and joy from Harry Reid too.

Mr. Obama promised a new era of transparent good government, yet on Saturday morning Mr. Reid threw out the 2,100-page bill that the world's greatest deliberative body spent just 17 days debating and replaced it with a new "manager's amendment" that was stapled together in covert partisan negotiations. Democrats are barely even bothering to pretend to care what's in it, not that any Senator had the chance to digest it in the 38 hours before the first cloture vote at 1 a.m. this morning. After procedural motions that allow for no amendments, the final vote could come at 9 p.m. on December 24.

Even in World War I there was a Christmas truce.

If it's so reckless, why haven't the opposition read it to come up with a more cogent argument then then lie it will kill grandma?

Why hire people to throw punches to disrupt honest argument?

Why make light of when it is being voted on instead of a detailed analysis of what people think is wrong?

A detailed, factual argument is more swaying then lying, making emotional pleas, and starting violence...but no one has done it.

If your story is true, I'm glad they might be trying to add a few things to this bill to encourage liberals. Not a true liberal myself, but they have it right in regards to what needs to happen with health insurance. May be wrong on other issues, but right on health insurance.

How can anyone read it when there are changes and amendments and new drafts popping up daily ?

Blame the opposition ? How's about ALL of them reading what they plan to vote on ? There's millions if not billions in pork that has been added to buy votes.

if it's so good, they why weren't the deliberations held in public on CSPAN the way President Obama said they would be? Why were such deliberations held in secret and votes held without giving the politicians time to read the entire document?

Democrats and the extreme left have been waiting for this window of opportunity for 75 years. They have a majority in BOTH houses and a president who will sign absolutely ANYTHING they come up with. They dont care how dirty they look anymore. For all they know this could be their last chance for another 75 years. They need to make it count. Is it any wonder there are 4 Democrat senators "retiring" next year? They're set for life with health and pension anyway.

If you don't consider two or three Senators writing the whole bill while keeping it secret from the rest reckless I don't think you have any ideas about what reckless is.

If you failed to hear when Dirty Harry stated that they were going to go on ahead without the Republicans as soon as he got the last disputed seat aboard for his 60 votes you must have slept through that period of our history.

You must think that someone from the right hired those SEIU thugs to pound Gaffney at the St. Louis Tea Party. That is what you meant when you talked about hiring people to throw punches, isn't it.

Your post indicates a complete lack of knowledge about what has gone on from the very beginning with Dirty Harry and his nearest friends plus some lobbyists doing the writing behind locked doors. Even the number 2 Dem in the Senate, Durbin of Ill. admitted that he has no idea what is in that thing here at the end.

You are spewing far left garbage in that post and should be ashamed to be so misinformed.

LoL, I watched CBS news interview politicians as they came in for the 1 am reading yesterday morning.

Only a handful of people answered yes as they walked by that they have ever read what they are voting on!

The sad thing is they made the poor clerk read it out loud, and not one senator stayed to listen the whole time.

Is it really the bill they don't like or are they believing their own propaganda about it?

Should we really give credence to people who never bother to read it but just listen to what spews forth from the nut raving on the street corner for their "In Depth Analysis"?

I wonder if the CBO has time to refigure the costs now that almost 400 pages of "changes" (read that as pork for votes) has been submitted ?

If this bill is to reform insurance it should do that and none of the "pork" things it is doing. How can you think that all that is in there that has to do with anything other than insurance SHOULD be there?
